EE Launches Enhanced Scam Guard with AI Triple-Lock Protection and Dark Web Monitoring
EE has introduced an upgraded version of its Scam Guard service, marking a significant advancement in fraud protection for its pay monthly mobile customers. Priced at £2 per month on a 30-day rolling contract, this enhanced service builds on EE’s existing offerings and integrates advanced features such as AI Triple-Lock Protection, Scam Assistant, Mobile Device Security, and Dark Web Monitoring. This initiative comes at a crucial time as the landscape of scams continues to evolve, posing increasing risks to consumers.
Rising Fraud Rates in the UK
The launch of the enhanced Scam Guard coincides with alarming statistics from Cifas, the UK’s leading fraud prevention service, which reported over 444,000 cases recorded in the National Fraud Database for 2025. This figure represents the highest number ever documented in a single year, reflecting a 6% increase from 2024. The rise in fraud cases is largely attributed to the growing sophistication of criminal networks employing artificial intelligence to create convincing phishing emails, fake websites, deepfake calls, and targeted SMS scams.
EE initially rolled out its Scam Guard service in 2024, and since then, it has successfully intercepted more than 169 million scam and spam attempts. This achievement underscores EE’s commitment to customer protection and sets a high standard for network providers in the industry. With the new enhancements, EE anticipates that the service will prevent at least double the number of scams over the next year.
Comprehensive AI-Driven Features
The upgraded Scam Guard incorporates a suite of AI-driven features designed to address the full spectrum of modern threats. These include:
-
AI Triple-Lock Protection: This feature offers three layers of AI defense, ensuring continuous protection against various types of scams.
-
Safe Email: This component provides 24/7 proactive scam protection for email inboxes, scanning and flagging suspicious messages before customers open them.
-
Safe SMS: Utilizing advanced AI, this feature detects sophisticated scams in text messages, offering real-time protection and reassurance to users.
-
Safe Web: This functionality harnesses AI to protect customers while shopping or browsing online, blocking potentially harmful sites before they can inflict damage.
Additionally, the new Scam Guard introduces the Scam Assistant, a tool that allows users to upload screenshots of texts, emails, websites, social media messages, or QR codes to receive immediate advice on their safety. The Call Labelling feature provides automatic, network-level screening of incoming calls, equipping customers with essential information prior to answering.
Monitoring and Security Enhancements
The service also includes Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring, which track suspicious activity across a customer’s online presence, sending prompt notifications for timely action. Mobile Device Security offers real-time protection against ransomware, viruses, and other online threats, automatically blocking dangerous attachments before they can cause harm. Furthermore, the Password Manager feature generates, stores, and auto-fills strong passwords, addressing a common vulnerability in personal online security.
EE’s commitment to enhancing customer security is part of a broader strategy aligned with BT Group’s mission to connect for good. This initiative aims to equip individuals with the digital skills, tools, and support necessary to navigate the online world safely.
Impact of Cybersecurity Solutions
EE’s Scam Guard is part of a comprehensive suite of cybersecurity solutions offered by BT Group. Over the past year (January to December 2025), these solutions have achieved significant milestones, including:
- Blocking 1.6 billion attempts to access malicious domains

He emphasized EE’s ongoing commitment to adapting its services to meet these evolving threats, which includes forming industry alliances, investing in network-level controls, and employing a dedicated team of security experts. With the newly enhanced Scam Guard, EE aims to provide customers with an elevated level of cybersecurity protection.
