75% of KSA Travelers Using AI for Trip Planning Express Data Security Concerns, Kaspersky Survey Reveals

A recent survey conducted by Kaspersky highlights a significant trend among travelers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA): while artificial intelligence (AI) tools are increasingly utilized for travel planning, a substantial portion of users harbor concerns regarding data security. This duality of enthusiasm for AI’s capabilities and apprehension about its risks underscores the evolving landscape of digital travel assistance.

The Growing Role of AI in Travel Planning

Kaspersky’s findings reveal that AI is highly valued by KSA travelers for its ability to save time and provide personalized recommendations. A notable 76% of respondents cited time-saving as a primary benefit, while 72% appreciated AI’s capacity to deliver tailored information about local attractions. Furthermore, 74% of users rely on AI for personalized recommendations, and 73% utilize it to uncover the best deals, with 67% trusting these tools to find information that might otherwise be elusive.

The convenience of AI has transformed the travel planning process. Users can generate customized itineraries that align with their preferences and budget in just a few clicks. However, the survey also emphasizes the necessity of verifying the information provided by AI, as there have been instances where travelers faced challenges due to over-reliance on these technologies without conducting their own research.

Security Risks and User Awareness

Despite the advantages, the survey indicates that many travelers remain cautious about sharing personal information with AI systems. Approximately 40% of respondents expressed concerns about the security risks associated with AI, opting to limit the sensitive data they share. An additional 35% acknowledged their apprehension but indicated that they proceed with caution when using AI tools. Collectively, 75% of AI users in travel planning consider data security a significant factor in their interactions with these technologies. Only 26% feel entirely secure when sharing data with AI.

The survey also highlights regional differences in attitudes toward AI security. Travelers from Spain, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Malaysia, and South Africa exhibit heightened concerns about AI-related risks. In contrast, respondents from China, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia demonstrate greater confidence in the security of AI systems.

The Importance of Vigilance

Vladislav Tushkanov, Group Manager at Kaspersky AI Technology Research Centre, emphasizes the importance of a cautious approach when using AI for travel planning. He notes that while AI can be a valuable tool, users must remain vigilant about potential cyber threats. Conversations with AI, even those perceived as private, can still be vulnerable to exposure. Tushkanov advises users to avoid oversharing personal information and to carefully consider which tasks they delegate to AI.

Kaspersky recommends several best practices for ensuring safety while interacting with AI:

  • Limit Personal Data Sharing: Avoid disclosing sensitive information such as identification, addresses, and passwords to AI assistants. Users should be selective about the resources where they input such data.

  • Retain Control Over Important Actions: Travelers should perform critical tasks—like sending emails, making purchases, and booking—independently, reserving AI for routine functions.

  • Verify Links and Emails: Users should check any links or emails provided by AI against reliable security solutions to block suspicious resources and secure online transactions.

  • Ensure Stable Internet Access: For those relying on AI while traveling, maintaining a stable internet connection is crucial. Utilizing an eSIM can facilitate constant mobile data access.

  • Avoid Linking Sensitive Accounts: Users should refrain from connecting their main accounts, especially those containing confidential data, to AI-powered services.

Implications for the Travel Industry

The findings from Kaspersky’s survey not only reflect the attitudes of individual travelers but also carry implications for the broader travel industry. As AI continues to integrate into travel planning, companies must prioritize user security and transparency. Building trust through robust security measures and clear communication about data handling practices will be essential for fostering user confidence.

The survey, conducted in 2025, included responses from 3,000 participants across 15 countries, including Argentina, Chile, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Türkiye, the UK, and the UAE. This diverse data set underscores the global relevance of the findings and the universal need for vigilance in the face of evolving digital threats.
