Jhalawar Man Arrested for Cyber Fraud Support
Collaborative Operation Leads to Arrest
In a significant breakthrough against cyber crime, the State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre in Chennai, working alongside local police in Jhalawar, detained Mohit Gochar, a 33-year-old resident. Authorities allege that Gochar was instrumental in supplying essential infrastructure to various cyber fraud schemes operating throughout India. His arrest is linked to an investment trading scam valued at a staggering ₹1.82 crore that originated in Chennai.
Involvement in Cybercrime Activities
Gochar’s role within organized cybercriminal networks has raised alarms among law enforcement. Officials report that he procured vital resources such as identity documents, which included Aadhaar and PAN cards, and opened numerous bank accounts. Additionally, he was involved in the acquisition of counterfeit SIM cards, which were then sold to cyber criminals. These resources facilitated unauthorized money transfers and enabled large-scale financial deceptions across the country.
Seized Evidence Highlights Fraudulent Operations
During the raid that resulted in Gochar’s arrest, authorities uncovered a trove of incriminating evidence. Notable items seized included 136 fake SIM cards, seven chequebooks, two bank passbooks, eight debit cards, a company seal, and various QR codes. Additionally, police discovered a diary connected to an online platform called “Shopping with Dream Home.” This substantial collection of evidence underscores Gochar’s significant involvement in a broader cyber fraud operation.
Investigation and Ongoing Queries
The investigation into Gochar’s activities was meticulous, tracing suspicious financial transactions in his ICICI Bank account, supported by intelligence reports and tips from local informants. The Chennai cybercrime team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police R Priyadarshini, orchestrated the arrest with the cooperation of Jhalawar authorities. Following his apprehension, Gochar has been put under transit remand as investigators delve deeper to uncover the larger network behind these unlawful activities.
Call for Public Awareness
In light of recent events, law enforcement agencies are urging citizens to exercise caution with online investment schemes. With cyber fraud becoming increasingly sophisticated, authorities stress the importance of vigilance and the role that digital forensics, along with inter-state collaborations, play in identifying and dismantling these criminal networks. Ongoing investigations aim to pinpoint all individuals involved in the fraud, ensuring accountability and reducing the risk for potential victims in the future.
As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on protecting the public and alerting them to the dangers posed by cyber criminals.
