Notorious Hacker Group 888 Claims Responsibility for Shell Data Breach

The notorious hacker group 888 has claimed responsibility for a Shell data breach targeting the British multinational oil and gas company, affecting approximately 80,000 individuals across multiple countries. The compromised data includes sensitive information such as shopper codes, names, email addresses, contact numbers, postcodes, and transaction details. Notably, the transactions seem to be associated with Reddy Express locations in Australia.

The claims of this breach were shared on a hacking forum, raising concerns about the security of users’ information. The Cyber Express has reached out to Shell for more information and verification of the breach, but no official statement has been released yet.

This is not the first time Shell has been targeted by cyberattacks, as previous incidents have involved ransomware attacks and data security breaches. Despite these challenges, Shell has emphasized its commitment to cybersecurity and data privacy, conducting investigations and working to address potential risks to affected individuals.

The ongoing nature of this situation underscores the persistent threat posed by cybercriminals to organizations, particularly those in the energy sector. The Cyber Express will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available. It is essential for individuals and stakeholders to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their data in the face of increasing cyber threats.
