UAE Secures AED3.776 Billion in Defence Contracts at 2025 Dubai Airshow

On the inaugural day of the 2025 Dubai Airshow, the United Arab Emirates solidified its growing stature in military procurement and technological capabilities by signing defence and security contracts worth AED3.776 billion (approximately $1.03 billion). This significant move underscores the nation’s commitment to enhancing its defence landscape and fostering collaboration with both local and international companies.

Tawazun Council’s Role in Defence Agreements

The Tawazun Council for Defence Enablement (Tawazun) took the lead in announcing eight key agreements on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. Official spokespeople Majed Ahmed Al Jaberi, Abdulla Ahmed Al Saeei, and Manea Abdulkarim Al Mansoori provided insights into these contracts, emphasizing the vital functions of the Directorate of Planning and Procurement. This directorate is responsible for executing the agreements and ensuring that the UAE’s defence strategies align with operational efficiency and supplier engagement.

Local Contracts: Strengthening Domestic Capability

Among the signed agreements, six local contracts collectively valued at AED3.041 billion (about $830 million) were detailed by Abdulla Al Saeedi. These contracts signify a robust investment in the UAE’s local defence industry and include:

  • Global Air Navigation Services (GANS): Awarded a contract worth AED1.294 billion ($352.4 million) to provide air navigation services and specialized manpower.

  • Global Aerospace Logistics (GAL): Secured AED600 million ($163.4 million) for follow-on support, spare parts, and technical assistance.

  • International Golden Group: Two contracts awarded amounting to AED715 million ($194.5 million):

    • AED415 million ($113.1 million) for follow-up support for aircraft.
    • AED299 million ($81.4 million) dedicated to the production of airdrop parachutes.
  • Maximus Air: Contracted for AED293 million ($79.8 million) to provide aircraft rental services.

  • Abu Dhabi Shipping Agency: Received AED137 million ($37.3 million) for similar aircraft rental services.

These contracts represent a significant boost for local companies, enhancing their operational capabilities and contributing to the UAE’s defence ambitions.

International Contracts: Building Global Partnerships

In addition to local agreements, Manea Al Mansoori announced two notable international contracts totaling AED725 million ($197.5 million). These international partnerships illustrate the UAE’s strategy of collaborating with globally recognized defence firms:

  • Airbus Helicopters (France): Secured a contract worth AED512 million ($139.4 million) for H Care services, which encompass support for helicopter operations.

  • Embraer (Brazil): Engaged for AED212 million ($57.7 million) to facilitate the production of VIP aircraft, marking a further diversification of the UAE’s aviation capabilities.

These international deals reflect Tawazun’s dedication to fostering strategic alliances that enhance the UAE’s defence infrastructure and competence.

The Role of Dubai Airshow in Defence Innovation

According to Majed Al Jaberi, the current agreements are a testament to Tawazun’s pledge to strengthen partnerships with both national and international defence firms, thus reinforcing the UAE’s integrated defence ecosystem. The Dubai Airshow serves as a premier global platform, showcasing innovations in defence and aerospace, while also positioning the UAE as a hub for advanced industries and knowledge-driven economic growth.

The 2025 edition of the airshow is particularly noteworthy, as it emphasizes themes such as sustainability, artificial intelligence solutions, advanced mobility, and space technologies. With these focuses, this year’s event is touted as the most expansive and forward-thinking yet, attracting global attention and fostering discussions around future technological advancements in the defence sector.

In conclusion, the contracts signed during the Dubai Airshow not only highlight the UAE’s robust defence capabilities but also signal a significant step towards enhanced security and collaboration in the global defence landscape.
