Kozhikode | December 1, 2025: The Kerala Police have escalated their efforts in combating cybercrime with the launch of a significant initiative known as Operation Cy-Hunt. This ambitious operation follows the discovery of new links to international cybercrime syndicates operating a plethora of high-value online scams, marking a crucial step in rooting out organized fraud.

Recently, Kozhikode’s Cyber Police uncovered vital insights through state-of-the-art digital forensics. Techniques such as mobile data extraction, communication log analyses, and financial transaction audits have paved the way for the identification of suspects involved in various online schemes, notably those linked to digital arrest fraud and massive investment scams that have cost victims crores of rupees.

85 Major Investment Scam Cases Under Priority Investigation

The focus of Operation Cy-Hunt is currently set on 85 significant cases of cyber investment fraud registered in Kozhikode. Victims in these cases have been pressured with alarming claims they were under government surveillance and would face dire repercussions unless they made immediate payments. This tactic highlights the insidious methodology behind digital arrest scams.

According to police, many of these fraud networks operate from abroad, with local coordinators in Kerala managing transactions and technical processes. A senior officer from the cybercrime unit emphasized the complexity, stating: “These are highly structured, multi-layered criminal networks. Our goal is to dismantle each operational link — both overseas and domestic.

11-Month Action: 20 Key Arrests in Kozhikode District

Over the past eleven months, the Kozhikode Cyber Police have successfully apprehended approximately 20 significant operatives involved in a variety of cybercrimes, including:

  • Multi-level online investment fraud
  • Digital intimidation and psychological extortion
  • Remote-access device takeover for financial theft
  • Phishing and cryptocurrency scams

The most recent significant breakthrough occurred in Pantheerankavu, with three individuals arrested for orchestrating a ₹25-crore scam against a resident of Ernakulam. Moreover, 25 other suspects in the district remain closely monitored, with summonses issued for further questioning.

Statewide, the operation has identified a staggering 2,683 suspects, leading to 284 arrests thus far. This crackdown has been fueled by intelligence gathered from the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and other central investigative units.

Police Advisory: Beware of Fake Apps & Public Wi-Fi Traps

In light of the rising threat posed by cybercriminals, authorities are warning the public to remain vigilant against:

  • Fraudulent investment platforms
  • Fake customer support helplines
  • Unknown APK/download links
  • Public Wi-Fi phishing setups

Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activity immediately by contacting:

Kerala Emerges as a Cybercrime Enforcement Leader

Kerala is rapidly establishing itself as a leader in cybercrime enforcement through a comprehensive expansion of its cybersecurity capabilities. Key initiatives include:

  • Upgrading cyber policing systems to tackle modern threats
  • Implementing blockchain tracing and cryptocurrency monitoring to track illicit financial activities
  • Fostering real-time collaborations with both national and global agencies for a unified response to cybercrime

Cybersecurity experts caution that as criminals harness new technologies — such as AI-based manipulation, number spoofing, deepfake intimidation, and psychological pressure tactics — robust enforcement and vigilant public awareness become essential to mitigate these threats.
