Exploring the Dark Web: What You Need to Know

The mysterious world of the dark web has long been a topic of fascination and fear for many internet users. But what exactly is the dark web, and what goes on there?

Ryan Montgomery, a professional cyber security specialist and ethical hacker, recently shed some light on the dark web in an interview on the Shawn Ryan Show podcast. According to Montgomery, the dark web is not a marketplace or black market as many believe. Instead, it is a hidden part of the internet where users need to know specific URLs to access certain websites.

To access the dark web, users must use the Onion Router (TOR) and navigate to websites with URLs ending in ‘.onion’ instead of ‘.com’. Montgomery explained that there are various categories of websites on the dark web, some of which engage in illegal activities like selling counterfeit money and fake IDs.

While Montgomery has used the dark web to track down predators and paedophiles in the past, he emphasized that it is not a major tool in catching criminals. In many cases, perpetrators leave digital traces that lead law enforcement to them through regular means.

The comments on the podcast praised Montgomery for his work in exposing criminals on the dark web, with many commending his dedication and determination. Despite the intrigue surrounding the dark web, it remains a dangerous and murky place that most internet users are wise to avoid.
