Data Leak from Telecom Companies on Dark Web: Cyber Crime Officials Raise Concerns

In a shocking revelation, senior officials at the district cyber crime cell in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, have uncovered a major data leak from a state-owned telecom company on the dark web. This leak includes sensitive personal information such as cell phone numbers, IMEI numbers, banking account details, and other private data of nearly six lakh people in Bhopal.

The officials expressed uncertainty about whether the data leak was accidental or intentional, with almost 300 GB of data already leaked on the dark web. Despite efforts to investigate the source of the leak, the cyber cell has been unable to determine how and from where these dark net activities are being carried out.

One senior cyber crime official, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that audits at the telecom company offices in Bhopal and across the state have not been conducted for many years, leading to this massive data breach. The lack of oversight has left thousands of consumers vulnerable to cyber frauds and identity theft.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime branch) Shailendra Singh Chouhan acknowledged the rampant practice of data selling and leaks on the dark web but stated that no official complaints have been received yet. Without complaints, the cyber cell is unable to take action against those responsible for this alarming breach of privacy.

As the investigation continues, residents of Bhopal are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect their personal information from falling into the wrong hands.
