Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Accelerates Al Mamzar Beaches Project, Enhancing Dubai’s Coastal Tourism Strategy

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently conducted a tour of the Al Mamzar Beaches development project. This initiative, backed by a substantial investment of AED 500 million, is positioned as a flagship strategic project by Dubai Municipality, aiming to establish a premier family beach destination.

Strategic Importance and Vision

Accompanied by key figures including H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the project’s alignment with Dubai’s broader vision. He stated, “As part of our vision to transform Dubai into the world’s best city to live in by 2040, we recently approved the AED 3 billion Dubai Beaches development plan aimed at increasing beach capacity for tourists and visitors by 170%.”

The Al Mamzar Beaches project is designed to enhance the emirate’s coastline, promoting an integrated environment that fosters healthy lifestyles, social connections, and sustainability. It spans an impressive 4 million square feet and is projected to accommodate up to 7 million visitors annually.

Enhancing Infrastructure and Community Wellbeing

The project is part of a larger AED 3 billion portfolio that includes premium beachfront developments across various key locations, such as Al Mamzar Corniche and Lagoon, Jumeirah 1, and future projects in Jumeirah 2 and 3, as well as Umm Suqeim and Jebel Ali Beach by 2030. Eng. Marwan bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, provided insights into the progress of the Al Mamzar Beaches project, highlighting its alignment with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033. This strategy aims to enhance public spaces, promote healthy lifestyles, and improve community wellbeing.

The initiative also supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which focuses on advancing beachfront development and strengthening urban infrastructure. This is in line with Dubai’s Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030, which aims to position the emirate as one of the world’s most beautiful and sustainable coastal cities.

Technological Integration and Safety Measures

In a bid to meet the rising demand from visitors, Al Mamzar Beaches will feature 35 service and leisure facilities designed to international standards, ensuring accessibility for people of determination. The project anticipates a significant increase in visitor numbers, with a 500% boost in service capacity, including enhanced safety and rescue infrastructure. Additionally, it will create over 65 new investment opportunities.

Innovative features include the world’s first 24/7 women-only beach, which offers night swimming, and a floating walkway at Al Mamzar Lagoon, a regional first. The development will also incorporate over 5.5 kilometers of walking, running, and cycling tracks, linking the lagoon, corniche, and Al Mamzar Beach Park to create an integrated beach-and-park experience.

Dubai Municipality is enhancing the digital infrastructure of its beaches by leveraging advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT). This integration aims to bolster public safety and improve beach services through faster response times and intelligent systems, thereby protecting beach users and reducing risks.

Economic and Environmental Considerations

The Al Mamzar Beaches project is not just a recreational initiative; it also aims to stimulate economic activity by integrating investment opportunities across retail, dining, water sports, and recreational services. This approach encourages private sector participation, bolstering Dubai’s position as a global tourism hub.

In line with climate adaptation goals, the project utilized 350,000 cubic meters of sand for land reclamation, enhancing coastal resilience and ensuring protection for beachgoers based on specialized environmental studies. The developments at Al Mamzar Lagoon and Corniche represent a significant advancement in public beach design, delivering a comprehensive destination that merges leisure, tourism, and community value.

Eng. Marwan bin Ghalita remarked on the transformative potential of the project, stating, “Dubai Municipality continues to advance the Al Mamzar Beaches project, with the destination expected to open soon and deliver high standards of safety, sustainability, and service quality.” He further emphasized the commitment to developing high-quality beach destinations that enhance the quality of life and reinforce Dubai’s appeal as a global hub for beach tourism.

The Al Mamzar Beaches project exemplifies Dubai’s strategic focus on enhancing its coastal tourism landscape while integrating advanced technologies and sustainable practices. As the emirate continues to evolve, such initiatives will play a crucial role in shaping its future as a premier global destination.
