Exploring the Nintendo Museum: A Journey Through the History of Fun

The historic Uji Kokura factory in Kyoto, built in 1969 for toy production, has undergone a remarkable transformation. Now, more than 50 years later, it will open its doors as the Nintendo Museum on October 2, 2024.

Nintendo has provided a sneak peek into what visitors can expect at the museum, which will showcase a journey through the company’s illustrious history. From its origins as a playing card company in 1889 to its iconic game releases, the museum promises to be a nostalgic and interactive experience for fans of all ages.

One of the highlights of the museum is the interactive exhibit on the first floor, featuring a unique card game based on Japanese historical poems. Visitors will use a dedicated app to listen to a verse and then search the room for the corresponding card to continue the poem. In addition to classic Nintendo home game consoles and mini-games based on vintage toys like the Ultra Machine pitching machine and the Love Tester, visitors can also try out new games like the Big Controller, where players use giant versions of past hardware controllers to play console games.

To participate in these interactive exhibits and mini-games, visitors will need to use “coins” provided upon entry. With a limited number of coins available, guests will have to choose wisely on how they want to spend their time at the Nintendo Museum.
