Barracuda Acquires Evo Security to Strengthen Identity Resilience for Managed Service Providers

Barracuda Networks has officially announced its acquisition of Evo Security, a specialized provider of identity and access management (IAM) solutions tailored for managed service providers (MSPs). This strategic move is set to enhance the capabilities of the BarracudaONE platform, creating a comprehensive, partner-first solution that integrates privileged access management (PAM), access control, identity protection, and identity threat detection and response.

Expanding Identity Security Capabilities

The integration of Evo Security’s IAM solutions with Barracuda’s existing identity-driven controls allows BarracudaONE to offer a unified, end-to-end identity security architecture. This comes at a time when global investments in IAM are experiencing double-digit year-over-year growth, as noted by industry analysts. The combined platform will provide partners with a multi-tenant environment, enabling them to deliver complete identity resilience while alleviating the operational burdens associated with managing multiple disparate tools.

Rohit Ghai, Chief Executive Officer of Barracuda, emphasized the urgency of addressing identity security in the current landscape. He stated that protecting both human and non-human identities is crucial for achieving cyber resilience. Existing enterprise identity solutions often fall short, being complex and costly, particularly for MSPs that need to manage millions of identities across diverse customer environments. The collaboration with Evo Security aims to bridge this gap, offering a platform that is intelligent, user-friendly, and open.

Addressing Identity Challenges for MSPs

Michael Roth, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Evo Security, highlighted the company’s mission to tackle the identity challenges faced by MSPs. He noted that joining Barracuda provides the scale and resources necessary to accelerate their mission on a global scale. The identity-first approach of Evo Security was designed specifically for MSP operations, and the partnership with BarracudaONE aims to extend modern identity security and automation to a broader range of partners and their customers.

A Four-Layer Identity Security Architecture

The acquisition facilitates the implementation of a four-layer identity security architecture within BarracudaONE, specifically designed to address common vulnerabilities exploited by attackers:

  • Preventing Identity and Privilege Misuse: MSPs often grapple with uncontrolled privileges and inconsistent access policies. Evo Security’s IAM tools enforce strict access controls, ensuring that only authorized users can access specific resources, thus eliminating standing privileges and streamlining authentication across all users and devices.

  • Mitigating Risky Access Paths: Traditional network access often provides excessive reach, increasing the potential for security breaches. Barracuda SecureEdge ZTNA replaces broad access with identity-driven, least privilege controls, simplifying access management and enhancing threat containment.

  • Safeguarding Identity Systems: Changes to Microsoft Entra ID, whether accidental or malicious, can disrupt operations. Barracuda Entra ID Backup protects users, groups, policies, and configurations, enabling organizations to quickly restore identity integrity and maintain operational continuity.

  • Detecting and Stopping Identity-Based Attacks: Credential compromise and privilege escalation often go unnoticed across fragmented tools. Barracuda Managed XDR correlates signals from various sources—email, endpoints, network, and cloud—to identify and neutralize identity-driven attacks before they escalate.

A Partner-First Approach to Identity Security

Every layer of the BarracudaONE platform’s identity security stack is meticulously crafted for partner operations. Unlike many identity platforms that require significant overhauls of existing security infrastructures, BarracudaONE offers an integrated solution that is straightforward to deploy and comprehensive in its coverage. This partner-first architecture is further enhanced by intelligent automation, ensuring that organizations are equipped to meet today’s operational demands.

The team from Evo Security has now joined Barracuda, bringing with them extensive expertise in identity management. Their technology will be seamlessly integrated into BarracudaONE, and the company is committed to continuing support for Evo Security’s existing MSPs as the platform evolves.

This acquisition not only strengthens Barracuda’s position in the cybersecurity landscape but also underscores the growing importance of robust identity management solutions in an era marked by increasing cyber threats.
