Doha, Qatar: The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has issued a critical alert for Apple Mac users in Qatar regarding a significant vulnerability in the Screen Sharing feature of macOS. This vulnerability poses a high risk, particularly for devices that are connected to the internet.

According to the NCSA, the vulnerability has been actively exploited by attackers who can gain root-level privileges on affected devices. This exploitation allows them to deploy malware that utilizes the compromised devices’ resources for cryptocurrency mining. The agency’s warning highlights the urgency for users to take immediate action to protect their systems.

Immediate Recommendations for Users

The NCSA strongly advises all macOS users to update their devices to the latest available security release without delay. Additionally, users are urged to disable the Screen Sharing feature when it is not in use to mitigate the risk of exploitation.

At-Risk Versions of macOS

The versions of macOS identified as most vulnerable include macOS Tahoe versions prior to 26.6.1, macOS Sequoia versions prior to 15.7.9, and macOS Sonoma versions prior to 14.8.9. Users operating these versions should prioritize updating their systems to safeguard against potential attacks.

This alert from the NCSA serves as a crucial reminder for Mac users in Qatar to remain vigilant and proactive in maintaining their cybersecurity hygiene. For further details, refer to the full report by The Peninsula Qatar.
