Bank of Sharjah partners with Emirates Face Recognition to enhance digital banking security with facial authentication

Bank of Sharjah has launched facial biometric authentication for fund transfers, partnering with Emirates Face Recognition (EFR) to enhance security and streamline customer verification in its digital banking services. This initiative, announced during the AI Everything event in Abu Dhabi, marks a significant step in the bank’s broader Digital Transformation strategy aimed at improving customer access while bolstering security.

The collaboration with EFR, a UAE-based company specializing in biometric verification and digital identity solutions, has already seen the successful implementation of facial authentication technology for fund transfers. Bank of Sharjah reports a rapid adoption rate among customers, indicating a positive reception to the new security measure.

Strategic Partnership and Future Plans

The agreement was formalized in the presence of key executives, including Sridhar Karlapudi, COO of Bank of Sharjah, and Zack Charkas, CEO of Emirates Face Recognition. The partnership is designed to not only enhance current services but also to extend biometric authentication to additional banking functionalities in the future. Planned enhancements include features for the bank’s mobile application and web services, such as instant account opening and automated Know Your Customer (KYC) updates, allowing customers to conduct more transactions remotely.

“We are proud to partner with an innovative national company like Emirates Face Recognition, which shares our ambition to deliver efficient, secure, and seamless banking solutions,” stated Sridhar Karlapudi. He emphasized that this partnership is a crucial milestone in their digital transformation journey, reinforcing their commitment to customer-focused security and superior digital banking experiences.

Enhancing Customer Experience

The integration of biometric verification technology aims to simplify customer identification and authentication processes, reducing the complexity of accessing and completing financial transactions digitally. This move aligns with a growing trend in the financial services sector, where institutions are increasingly adopting biometric technologies to enhance security while meeting customer demands for faster and more convenient digital interactions.

According to Zack Charkas, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to innovation and creating long-term value for customers and businesses in the UAE. EFR’s technology is designed to facilitate identity verification and customer onboarding, automating processes that traditionally required manual checks or in-person verification.

As Bank of Sharjah continues to develop its digital banking services, the implementation of biometric authentication is expected to play a pivotal role in customer authentication, onboarding, and account management, further enhancing the overall banking experience.
