Sophos, a leading provider of managed security services, has announced its definitive agreement to acquire Secureworks, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions. The all-cash transaction is valued at approximately US$859 million, backed by Thoma Bravo, a prominent software investment firm.

The merger aims to combine Sophos’ expertise in security products with Secureworks’ security operations capabilities, particularly their Taegis platform. This collaboration is expected to deliver advanced MDR and XDR solutions to their global customer bases, enhancing the resilience and security posture of organizations of all sizes.

The integration of solutions from both companies into a broader security portfolio will benefit small, mid, and enterprise customers. Sophos plans to expand its offerings to include identity detection and response, next-gen SIEM capabilities, OT security, and enhanced vulnerability risk prioritization.

Both companies have a long history of exceptional threat intelligence, security operations, incident response, and innovative security products, which will help organizations combat the escalating cyber-risk landscape. The transaction is expected to close in early 2025, subject to customary closing conditions.

Leaders from both companies are optimistic about the acquisition, with Sophos CEO Joe Levy emphasizing the strengthened market position and improved outcomes for global organizations. Secureworks CEO Wendy Thomas believes the merger will enhance their go-to-market offering and collectively empower organizations to combat cyber threats more effectively.

Overall, the acquisition of Secureworks by Sophos represents a significant step forward in their commitment to building a safer digital future for all, as they join forces to tackle the challenges posed by cybercriminals and global geopolitical pressures.
