Strengthening Cloud Security: The Importance of Trusted Partnerships for CISOs

Cloud Security Concerns Prompt CISO Exodus to New Providers, Arctic Wolf Survey Reveals

In a striking revelation, a new business survey commissioned by Arctic Wolf highlights that 44% of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) have switched cloud service providers due to burgeoning security concerns. The survey, which delves into the security challenges organizations face in the cloud, exposes a worrying sentiment: 24% of CISOs doubt the security of their current cloud environments, while 43% believe that providers have overstated their security measures.

As companies increasingly rely on cloud technology to facilitate remote work, 73% of CISOs report partnering with two to five providers to meet their organizational needs. Yet, this diversity creates a sprawling attack surface, amplifying security risks. Alarmingly, 53% of CISOs now demand a heightened security focus from their cloud vendors but find many providers have exaggerated their protective capabilities, leaving businesses vulnerable to cyber threats.

Clare Loveridge, Vice President and General Manager for EMEA at Arctic Wolf, emphasized the need for organizations to establish trust with their cloud partners. “Securing the cloud is a shared responsibility between the cloud provider and the organization,” she stated. “While cloud providers offer essential security tools, it’s crucial to have dedicated security experts monitoring for emerging threats.”

Despite the benefits that come with collaboration, only 22% of CISOs utilize channel partners in cloud migration, leaving many ill-equipped against potential cyberattacks. With companies investing between £101,000 and £250,000 on cloud transitions in the past year alone, the risks of inadequate security are severe.

The survey underscores an urgent call for businesses to enhance their security posture by partnering with Managed Service Providers (MSPs). By tapping into expert resources, organizations not only protect their assets but also safeguard the roles of their CISOs in an increasingly precarious digital environment.
