Ocean Infinity has officially launched its innovative NeedleFish Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) in a ceremony attended by the Kuwaiti Coast Guard (KCG). This significant unveiling underlines the commitment to enhance maritime surveillance capabilities in Kuwait.
Enhancing National Maritime Surveillance
The NeedleFish USV is set to play a crucial role in Kuwait’s new integrated national maritime surveillance system, which is being developed in partnership with SRT Marine Systems. This advanced surveillance initiative aims to bolster the monitoring and protection of Kuwait’s extensive territorial waters, covering approximately 11,000 square kilometers.
Cutting-Edge Technology at Work
Equipped with a suite of specialized maritime surveillance sensors, the NeedleFish USV leverages Ocean Infinity’s cutting-edge software, advanced robotics, and marine intelligence technologies. This allows the vessel to perform unmanned patrols, conduct thorough surveillance, and engage in mapping and surveying activities efficiently.
Command Center Integration
Operations for the NeedleFish will be managed from KCG’s state-of-the-art onshore Command Centres. These facilities are fully integrated with the SRT C5iSR maritime surveillance system, which enhances the coordination and effectiveness of maritime monitoring efforts.
Proven Experience in Challenging Environments
Ocean Infinity has been deploying USVs since 2019, accumulating valuable operational experience in demanding maritime conditions. The company currently operates the largest fleet of USVs and Uncrewed Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) in active service, utilizing technologies that allow for remote and autonomous operations.
Tailored Solutions for Kuwait
The expertise Ocean Infinity brings to the table results in a highly effective platform tailored specifically to meet the rigorous demands of Kuwait’s maritime environment. This includes ultra-high-performance robotics, which facilitate beyond-line-of-sight marine surveillance, and features live surveillance streaming incorporated into their new Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) System.
Successful Demonstration of Capabilities
Recently, KCG’s customized 14-meter, dual-hull NeedleFish USVs completed a successful live demonstration in open waters. This event was specially organized for His Excellency Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Interior, alongside Commodore Sheikh Mubarak, the overall Commander of the Kuwait Coast Guard.
Future Implications and Remarks
Oliver Plunkett, CEO of Ocean Infinity, expressed enthusiasm over the ongoing rollout of the NeedleFish USV, stating that this initiative marks a pivotal milestone for the company. He highlighted how Ocean Infinity’s extensive operational experience and reliable technology help them support clients in navigating complex markets, particularly at times when such capabilities are increasingly necessary.
