Dubai-based startup XPANCEO has achieved a significant milestone by completing a $250 million Series A funding round. This funding elevates the company to a valuation of $1.35 billion, officially granting it unicorn status. The startup is on a mission to develop the first-ever all-in-one AI-powered extended reality (XR) smart lens.

The recent funding round was led by Opportunity Venture (Asia), which previously supported XPANCEO during a $40 million seed round. The influx of capital will enable XPANCEO to refine its product, expand its global workforce, and expedite its market strategy. The vision behind this innovative venture is ambitious: replacing smartphones, smartwatches, and other electronic devices with a single, seamless wearable solution—the eye-based smart lens.

Roman Axelrod, founder and Managing Partner at XPANCEO, highlighted the consensus among major tech players regarding the future of AI-powered wearable technology. He noted that while companies have begun developing glasses and headsets, XPANCEO’s smart lens technology places the startup at least five years ahead of the competition. In a span of just 24 months, the company has produced 15 working prototypes, each offering unique capabilities. Axelrod emphasized the objective of creating an invisible interface that merges all devices into one, aimed directly at the human eye.

XPANCEO’s approach diverges significantly from that of tech giants currently invested in cumbersome headsets and smart glasses. The startup’s next-generation smart lens promises to integrate several groundbreaking features:
