The Security Institute recently convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 8 at the Millennium Hotel & Conference Centre. Members and stakeholders came together to engage with the latest updates concerning the Institute’s strategic direction and future plans.
Keynote Address by Chair Julie Nel
Chair Julie Nel MA CSyP FSyI set the tone for the meeting with her keynote address, which highlighted key milestones and acknowledged the contributions of those who have played a vital role in the organization’s journey. She expressed gratitude towards former CEO Mahbubul Islam CSyP MSyI for his significant efforts during his tenure.
New Leadership Transition
During her address, Nel also introduced new interim CEO Sarah Austerberry MLitt CSyP FSyI, emphasizing the importance of leadership transition in driving the Institute’s goals forward. Nel discussed several initiatives currently in progress and the challenges that lie ahead, particularly focusing on the areas of Influence, Membership, and Professionalization.
Updates on Initiatives and Membership
The meeting covered a range of updates, including the status of the SABRE initiative, current membership statistics, and financial health. Members were particularly informed about recent membership enhancements designed to engage a broader audience and provide greater value to existing members.
Director Elections Results
One of the highlights of the day was the announcement of the results from the Director Elections. The board warmly welcomed new directors Matthew Seel CSyP CNSP FSyI, Andrew Donaldson MSc BSc (Hons) CSyP FSyI, Chris Middleton CSyP Dip ML MSyI, and Rachel Webb MA CSyP FSyI. Nel congratulated the new board members and expressed her appreciation for all candidates who demonstrated their commitment to the Institute’s mission.
Networking and Future Directions
The day concluded with a Board meeting, followed by a networking session that allowed members to connect and share insights. Reflecting on the day’s events, Nel remarked, “It was an insightful day, and as always, I welcome the interaction and feedback from our members. I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to each of our new directors – I look forward to working closely with them all.” She concluded by reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to growth and adaptability in the face of new challenges, stating, “We have a bright future ahead: The Security Institute continues to evolve and grow, responding to new challenges while remaining steadfast in its mission to be the leading professional body for security professionals in the UK.”
