Apus Energy Joins African Energy Week as a Silver Partner

Investing in West Africa’s Offshore Potential

Apus Energy has officially stepped onto the stage as a Silver Partner in the African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025 event, set to unfold in Cape Town from September 29 to October 3. This involvement marks an exciting milestone as the company forays into the largely untapped offshore sector of West Africa. With high-impact drilling operations already underway, Apus Energy aims to draw significant attention and investment to one of the region’s most promising hydrocarbon basins.

Historic Exploration Well in Guinea-Bissau

In an important move for West African exploration, Apus Energy spudded the Atum-1X exploration well offshore Guinea-Bissau in September 2024. This marks the first offshore drilling activity in the nation in nearly two decades, highlighting the potential for revitalization in the local oil sector. The well is located near Senegal’s highly productive Sangomar field and is estimated to hold a staggering 314 million barrels of recoverable oil. For this drilling operation, Apus Energy is utilizing the Ocean BlackRhino, a state-of-the-art seventh-generation drillship managed by Noble Corporation, with oversight from AGR, a part of ABL Group.

AEW: A Hub for Energy Collaboration

AEW: Invest in African Energies has established itself as a premier gathering for project developers, financiers, technology providers, and government entities, becoming the go-to venue for deals in the African energy sector. This platform not only showcases investments but also fosters vital collaborations across the industry. For additional details regarding this influential event, visit AECWeek.com.

Strategic Acquisition in Guinea-Bissau

Apus Energy’s entry into the upstream landscape of Guinea-Bissau was strategically facilitated through the acquisition of a 100% interest in the Sinapa (Block 2) and Esperança (Blocks 4A and 5A) licenses from the Spanish oil and gas entity Petronor. The deal, valued at $85 million, includes initial payments to cover historical license expenses along with milestones contingent upon government approval for a field development plan and continued production. Spanning a total area of 4,962 km², these licenses encompass two primary prospects—Atum and Anchova—with a combined estimated resource potential of 467 million barrels.

Positioning Guinea-Bissau as an Emerging Energy Play

With its ongoing drilling campaign, Apus Energy is keen on positioning Guinea-Bissau as one of the most significant emerging energy plays in West Africa. The company’s strategic objectives are closely aligned with the region’s energy aspirations, opening new avenues for investment while supporting local capacity building and enhancing energy security.

A New Era for Frontier Exploration

According to Tomás Gerbasio, the VP of Commercial and Strategic Engagement at the African Energy Chamber, "Apus Energy’s work offshore Guinea-Bissau represents a strong signal that frontier exploration in West Africa is entering a new chapter. Their commitment to high-impact drilling and strategic partnerships is indicative of the kind of leadership essential for unlocking the vast untapped resources of the region."

Promising Futures in Frontier Basin Development

With drilling operations already underway and substantial reserves available, Apus Energy’s presence at AEW: Invest in African Energies 2025 underscores the robust investment climate in West Africa. This initiative holds promise for further development in frontier basins and reinforces the opportunities that lie within the region for both local and international stakeholders.

This compelling narrative encapsulates the significant developments surrounding Apus Energy’s efforts in West Africa, emphasizing its strategic initiatives and the potential impact on the energy landscape. In doing so, it invites engagement without losing sight of the critical details that drive the story forward.
