Chloe Ayling’s Ongoing Fight Against Skepticism
Eight years have passed since British model Chloe Ayling’s harrowing kidnapping, yet she continues to face skepticism regarding her account of events. Despite enduring a traumatic experience, she remains resolute in refuting claims that she fabricated her ordeal.
The Backstory: A Trip Gone Wrong
In April 2017, a then 19-year-old Chloe traveled to Paris for a photoshoot arranged by her former agent, Phil Green. Initially hired by a client known as ‘Andre Lazio,’ the photoshoot fell through due to a tragic terror attack on the Champs-Élysées that left three police officers dead.
However, not long after, Andre contacted Phil again to reschedule the shoot, this time in Milan, Italy. Chloe boarded her flight, ready to fulfill the booking. Yet, upon her arrival in Milan, the situation escalated dramatically.
Abduction in Milan
Rather than participating in a photoshoot, Chloe found herself drugged and kidnapped. Her captor, who called himself MD, claimed to represent a criminal group known as "The Black Death." This group reportedly intended to auction her as a sex slave on the dark web. An email demanding $300,000 for her release was sent to Chloe’s agent, sparking immediate concern.
Phil swiftly alerted both English and Italian authorities. Doubts initially surrounded the validity of Chloe’s kidnapping, with some questioning whether it was a ruse to gain fame. However, law enforcement soon recognized the seriousness of her situation.
Finding Strength in Adversity
While authorities worked tirelessly to locate her, Chloe took matters into her own hands. In a new BBC docu-series, Chloe Ayling: My Unbelievable Kidnapping, she discusses pivotal moments that changed her dynamics with her captor. During her captivity, Chloe maintained a calm demeanor, believing that panic would worsen her situation.
She observed a shift in MD’s behavior when she remained composed. “I always remained calm,” Chloe reflected. This strategy seemed to create a connection, shifting the dynamic in her favor, as she perceived that MD started to view her differently.
Navigating Dangerous Waters
Despite her dire circumstances, Chloe also sought to build a rapport with MD. When he attempted to kiss her, she chose honesty over submission. “I don’t really feel up for that right now,” she admitted, while subtly hinting that perhaps things could change post-release. This delicate negotiation would prove crucial in her fight for freedom.
On the sixth day of her captivity, Chloe’s efforts to bond with MD culminated in her being allowed to leave. On July 17, he brought her to the British consulate in Milan, where she faced a difficult decision: to honor his condition of halting police inquiries or to reveal the full truth.
Justice Served
Ultimately, Chloe chose to share everything with the authorities, a testament to her strength and resolve. In June 2018, despite widespread skepticism about her story, MD—identified as Łukasz Herba—was convicted of kidnapping and sentenced to nearly 17 years in prison.
Chloe’s experience has been marked by an ongoing battle against disbelief. She continues to advocate for herself and others who have endured similar fates, affirming that her story is real and her resilience undeniable.
The first episode of Chloe Ayling: My Unbelievable Kidnapping is set to premiere on BBC on August 4, offering an intimate look into her ordeal and the complex aftermath of her kidnapping.
