MTN Business has joined forces with Cloudflare, Inc. to broaden their strategic partnership, emphasizing the provision of Zero Trust and Application Services. This move is designed to support corporate clients across South Africa with comprehensive managed services.

This collaboration positions MTN as the first Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) in the region to offer Cloudflare’s advanced Zero Trust cybersecurity solutions, providing businesses a robust suite of managed services tailored to today’s digital landscape.

The Need for Enhanced Cybersecurity Solutions

As companies adapt to the complexities associated with hybrid work models, the demand for effective cybersecurity measures has surged. According to Cloudflare’s findings from the second quarter of 2025, their security protocols successfully blocked an astonishing average of 277 million cyber threats daily across Africa. The telecommunications sector alone accounted for 49% of the mitigated requests, followed by Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance at 22.7%, Retail at 8.3%, Newspapers at 3.3%, and Gaming/Gambling at 3.2%. On average, they also succeeded in thwarting about 1.5 billion DDoS attacks each day, many of which initiated from South Africa.

Insights from Industry Leaders

David Behr, Executive for MTN ICT Converged Solutions, highlighted the importance of a unified security solution for businesses in South Africa. He stated, “The challenges businesses face in South Africa demand a one-stop solution for security. We are excited to be the first Cloudflare MSSP partner in South Africa, as this partnership allows us to offer best-in-class cybersecurity solutions and market-leading protection to our customers.”

Contributing to this discussion, Cloudflare’s Chief Partner Officer Tom Evans emphasized the distinctive advantages of their network security and SASE services. He remarked, “Cloudflare uniquely offers a broad range of network security and SASE services through a unified platform built on our own infrastructure. Partnering with service providers like MTN is crucial for extending essential security protections at scale. We are committed to helping businesses across Africa reinforce their security posture while optimizing costs.”

The Future of Managed Security Services

This strategic partnership not only strengthens MTN’s position in the cybersecurity market but also reflects an essential shift towards comprehensive security solutions that can adapt to the changing digital environment. As threats continue to evolve, collaborations like that of MTN and Cloudflare are vital in providing businesses the tools they need to safeguard their operations effectively.
