The Oman Tourism Development Company, known as OMRAN Group, has taken significant steps to enhance Oman’s tourism landscape by signing a term sheet for a strategic partnership with TUI Group, a prominent force in the global travel industry.
Strengthening Oman’s Tourism Profile
This alliance aims to elevate Oman’s status as a competitive year-round destination for travelers. By laying the groundwork for a comprehensive partnership, both OMRAN Group and TUI Group are keen on transforming the Sultanate’s tourism sector.
Development Plans in Dhofar Governorate
As part of this initiative, the two companies plan to develop five hotels and resorts in the stunning Dhofar Governorate. These properties are set to embrace international visitors starting in 2028 and will operate under TUI’s globally recognized brands, including:
- ROBINSON
- TUI Blue
- RIU
- Jaz
- The Mora
With the introduction of these hotels, the offerings in Dhofar are expected to become more diverse, providing quality services and meeting global sustainability standards.
Aligning with Oman Vision 2040
This partnership aligns seamlessly with the Oman Vision 2040, which aims to drive tourism growth, attract foreign investment, and empower local communities. The collaboration promises not only to enhance the hospitality sector but also to deliver long-term socio-economic benefits to the region.
Salim Mohammad Al Mahrouqi, Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism, remarked on the significance of this agreement. He stated, “This term sheet represents a milestone in reinforcing Oman’s position on the global tourism map. In partnership with OMRAN Group and TUI, we are committed to developing world-class tourism destinations that will attract more visitors, generate quality jobs, and attract valuable investments.”
In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of blending international expertise with local vision to unlock Oman’s full potential as a year-round tourism hub.
TUI’s Commitment to Quality and Sustainability
Sebastian Ebel, CEO of TUI Group, echoed the sentiment of creating integrated destinations, likening Oman to other successful ventures TUI has developed in regions like West Africa, Central America, and Asia. He expressed excitement about the prospects of creating a destination that is distinguished by quality, sustainability, and uniqueness.
Peter Krueger, Chief Strategy Officer at TUI Group, highlighted the growing demand for travel to Oman. He noted that this partnership would open new doors for international tourism, facilitating a smoother, more engaging experience for visitors.
Strategic Joint Venture
The partnership also kicks off a plan to establish a joint venture. Under the proposed agreement, both OMRAN Group and TUI Group will hold 45 percent equity each, while a private investor will retain the remaining 10 percent. Additionally, OMRAN Group aims to secure a 1.4 percent equity stake in TUI Group, pending regulatory approvals and final agreements.
A Focus on Sustainability and Economic Growth
Both entities are committed to minimizing their environmental impact, ensuring that projects align with OMRAN Group’s strategic focus on economics, society, culture, and the environment. The new resorts are anticipated to create direct and indirect job opportunities, support the involvement of local SMEs, and further strengthen Dhofar’s appeal as a year-round tourist destination.
With this partnership, Oman is on the brink of a transformative journey in tourism, promising to deliver memorable experiences to travelers while fostering local community growth and sustainability.
