The Growth of Saudi Arabia’s Tourism Sector in 2024

Saudi Arabia’s tourism landscape has experienced a significant transformation recently. The Kingdom welcomed an impressive 116 million domestic and international visitors in 2024, marking a 6% increase compared to the previous year. This remarkable influx led to a dramatic rise in tourism spending, which reached SR284 billion (approximately $75.7 billion), reflecting an 11% growth from 2023. The surge in inbound tourists, totaling 30 million, is the highest recorded to date, while domestic tourism also thrived, with 86.2 million trips made by residents.

NEOM: A Vision for the Future of Tourism

To cater to this booming demand, Saudi Arabia has ambitious plans for new and exciting tourist attractions. One of the most notable projects is Magna, located along the beautiful Gulf of Aqaba coastline. This groundbreaking development spans 120 kilometers and focuses on integrating cutting-edge technology, world-class architecture, and modern amenities with the natural environment.

The Twelve Unique Destinations within Magna

Magna consists of 12 individual destinations, each offering a unique experience, yet collectively forming a cohesive ecosystem. They are designed to prioritize the conservation and rejuvenation of local flora and fauna, ensuring the area’s natural beauty remains intact. The development will feature numerous luxury hotels, hundreds of hotel rooms, apartments, and premium residential options, contributing an anticipated SR2.6 billion ($693 million) to the Kingdom’s GDP by 2030.

Among the standout features of Magna are breathtaking resorts, which include:

Aquellum: A Resort Hidden Amongst Mountains

Aquellum promises a dramatic guest experience set within a 450-meter high mountain range. Accessing the resort begins with a journey through the world’s first floating marina. Inside, guests will discover a futuristic vertical courtyard that rises 100 meters, perfectly blending modern design with the natural rock formations.

Epicon: Iconic Towers by the Sea

Epicon is expected to redefine the Red Sea coastline with two towering structures standing at 225 and 275 meters. This development will house an ultra-premium hotel, luxury residences, and a resort featuring beachfront villas—all designed to offer a premium experience amid tranquil surroundings.

Elanan: A Wellness-focused Retreat

Nestled in a lush oasis, Elanan will serve as a serene wellness retreat featuring 80 bespoke rooms. The resort is architecturally unique, harmoniously incorporating sculptural structures with the surrounding greenery. Guests can engage in wellness programs, private dining, and enjoy panoramic coastal views from an observation tower.

Gidori: A Golfer’s Paradise

Gidori is set to be an exclusive golf resort enveloped by stunning coastal hills. Its highlight is an 18-hole championship golf course, complementing a community that will include luxury sea-view apartments and a boutique hotel with comprehensive entertainment options.

Xaynor: Exclusive Beachfront Leisure

Xaynor is envisioned as a private members’ club located along a secluded stretch of the Gulf. Designed for luxury and privacy, this club will offer members access to exclusive pools, lounges, a spa, and curated dining experiences, further enhancing the luxury lifestyle.

Cultural and Environmental Commitment

Other significant developments within Magna include:

  • Utamo: An immersive venue for arts, designed to host cultural performances and exhibitions using advanced technology for a one-of-a-kind sensory experience.

  • Zardun: An eco-luxury resort focused on rewilding, offering boutique hotels and nature-based programs that allow guests to engage in conservation efforts.

  • Siranna: This boutique retreat features a luxury hotel and private residences, integrating striking architectural elements into the rugged landscape.

  • Norlana: A wellness community accommodating 3,000 residents, featuring diverse sports and leisure facilities aimed at promoting an active lifestyle.

  • Leyja: This development emphasizes balancing tourism with conservation, preserving 95% of its land while providing innovative accommodation options.

  • Treyam: Known for its impressive rooftop infinity pool, Treyam promises exceptional views and a comprehensive array of culinary and recreational offerings.

  • Jaumur: The largest destination within Magna will feature a luxury marina city for 6,000 residents, complete with apartments, villas, and various lifestyle amenities.

Through these ambitious projects, Saudi Arabia is poised to redefine its tourism landscape, positioning itself as a premier destination for both luxury and adventure. As the nation continues to invest and innovate, the future looks bright for travelers seeking unique experiences in one of the world’s most enchanting locales.
