ADT Reports Second Unauthorized Network Access in SEC Filing

ADT, a leading provider of business and home security systems in the US, made headlines on Monday as it announced that an unauthorized third party had gained access to its networks for the second time since August. The Florida-based company filed a notification with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), revealing that the breach occurred through an unnamed third-party company that ADT is partnered with.

According to the 8K SEC filing, ADT discovered the unauthorized activity on its network as early as October 2nd, with the intruder using compromised credentials obtained through a third-party business partner. While the company did not provide specific details on the extent of the disruption to its operations, it stated that containment measures were in place.

In response to the breach, ADT has taken steps to shut down the unauthorized access and is working closely with the third party, outside security experts, and federal law enforcement to investigate and mitigate the incident. The company reassured customers that sensitive data, including the information of its 6.5 million customers, was not compromised in the breach.

This is the second time in the past 60 days that ADT has experienced a network infiltration, with the previous incident occurring in August. During that breach, limited customer information was accessed, but no home security systems were compromised. ADT, founded in 1874, provides smart home and small business security services across the US, Canada, and the UK.

Cybernews reached out to ADT for a statement but did not receive a response for either incident. As the investigation into the recent breach continues, customers are advised to remain vigilant and monitor their accounts for any suspicious activity.
