Analysis of iPhone 16 Pre-Order Sales: Pro Line Declines, Regular and Plus Models See Increase

Apple’s latest iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models have seen a mixed response in terms of pre-order sales, with the Pro line experiencing a decline in demand compared to the previous generation. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that while the overall pre-order sales of the iPhone 16 series reached an estimated 37 million units, it is 12.7% lower than the first weekend sales of the iPhone 15 series.

The lower-than-expected demand for the iPhone Pro series models, including the Pro Max and Pro units, is seen as a key factor contributing to the decline in overall sales. The absence of Apple Intelligence, a major selling point for the Pro series, is believed to have impacted consumer interest. Apple plans to roll out its AI features later this year, potentially affecting future sales.

In contrast, pre-orders for the regular iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models saw an increase in sales, with 7.3 million regular iPhone 16 units and 2.6 million Plus models sold. This represents a 10% and 48% increase, respectively, compared to the previous generation.

Looking ahead, Kuo suggests that Apple has opportunities to boost overall sales through the release of Apple Intelligence and holiday season promotions. The analyst predicts that Apple may implement more aggressive product strategies in 2025 to stimulate market demand.

Despite facing challenges from increasing competition in China and regulatory uncertainties, Apple remains optimistic about the potential of its latest iPhone lineup to attract consumers with innovative features like the Camera Control button and upcoming AI capabilities.
