Ascott Strengthens Nairobi’s Regional Hub Status with New Citadines Signing

The Ascott Limited, a subsidiary of CapitaLand Investment (CLI), has recently announced the signing of a new property, Citadines Westview Nairobi. This 160-key hotel will be situated in the Kilimani district, a well-established area in Nairobi, and is set to complement the existing 162-key Somerset Westview Nairobi serviced apartments. Scheduled for opening in the first quarter of 2028, this dual-brand offering aims to meet the diverse needs of both short- and extended-stay travelers, including corporate and leisure segments.

Reinforcing Nairobi’s Role as a Regional Business Hub

Nairobi is increasingly recognized as a pivotal regional business and investment hub, bolstered by rising corporate activities, infrastructure advancements, and enhanced international connectivity. This growth is leading to a sustained demand for high-quality, flexible accommodation options that cater to both short-term and long-term stays. The signing of Citadines Westview Nairobi underscores Ascott’s commitment to expanding its presence in high-potential urban markets, further solidifying its footprint in Kenya, where it already operates Somerset Westview Nairobi and has additional properties in development.

Part of Ascott’s Broader Africa Growth Strategy

The establishment of Citadines Westview Nairobi is part of Ascott’s broader strategy to expand across Africa. Over the past year, the company has secured ten new signings, which will increase its portfolio from two properties to 23 properties, comprising over 2,800 units across ten cities in eight countries by 2028. In addition to Kenya, Ascott is also focusing on key markets such as Morocco, Nigeria, and Ethiopia, where two new properties are planned for Addis Ababa’s Bole district, enhancing its presence in East Africa.

Vincent Miccolis, Managing Director for Middle East, Africa, and Türkiye at The Ascott Limited, emphasized Nairobi’s significance as a commercial and lifestyle hub in Africa. He noted that the new signing reflects Ascott’s commitment to the Kenyan market and its strategy to expand in cities with sustained demand from both business and leisure travelers. The partnership with Britam on this development combines institutional investment with Ascott’s global operational expertise, allowing for a broader range of accommodation options while maintaining brand quality and flexibility.

Strategic Investment and Market Confidence

Ambrose Dabani, CEO and Principal Officer of Britam Holdings PLC, expressed confidence in Nairobi’s potential as a key economic and commercial center in the region. He highlighted the focus on high-quality, resilient assets that can deliver sustainable value over time. The collaboration with Ascott is seen as a strategic move to combine strong real estate fundamentals with experienced global operations, ensuring that the development is well-positioned to meet the evolving demand for professionally managed accommodation.

Designed for Modern Urban Living

Citadines Westview Nairobi will feature a diverse range of accommodations, including hotel rooms, studios, and one-bedroom apartments. The property will be equipped with a comprehensive array of amenities, such as food and beverage outlets, meeting and conferencing facilities, a swimming pool, and a fully equipped gymnasium. The food and beverage offerings will complement the existing amenities at Somerset Westview Nairobi, including the Jabu rooftop bar and La Mascotte restaurant, creating a vibrant lifestyle destination within the development.

Strategically located adjacent to Somerset Westview Nairobi in the prime Kilimani district, Citadines Westview Nairobi will provide guests with seamless access to Nairobi’s key business hubs and lifestyle destinations. This positioning is designed to offer flexibility and convenience for travelers, whether they are visiting for business or leisure, and regardless of the duration of their stay.

The expansion of Ascott in Nairobi is not just a local development; it reflects broader trends in the hospitality industry, particularly the growing demand for flexible accommodation that can adapt to the needs of various traveler segments. As urban centers like Nairobi continue to evolve, the integration of modern living spaces with essential amenities will be crucial in attracting both local and international visitors.
