ASELSAN showcases deployable GÖKDENİZ and GÖKSUR VLS naval air defence systems at EURONAVAL 2026

Published:

ASELSAN has unveiled deployable configurations of its GÖKDENİZ and GÖKSUR vertical-launch systems (VLS) at EURONAVAL 2026, marking a significant evolution in naval air defence capabilities. These systems are designed to extend established defence technologies beyond traditional military vessels, enabling rapid deployment in response to emerging maritime security threats.

As maritime security challenges evolve, the need for adaptable defence solutions becomes increasingly critical. ASELSAN’s approach addresses the limitations of conventional shipboard integration, offering systems that can be deployed quickly and operate independently. This flexibility is particularly relevant for protecting civilian vessels navigating sensitive maritime chokepoints, where traditional military-grade self-defence systems may not be feasible.

GÖKDENİZ: Proven Close-In Defence, New Deployment Options

The GÖKDENİZ system, a close-in weapon system (CIWS) derived from ASELSAN’s KORKUT air defence system, is designed to protect naval platforms against a variety of threats, including anti-ship missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Its deployable configuration allows for independent operation, housed in a container with its own generator and climate-controlled workspace. This setup enables GÖKDENİZ to be installed on various platforms or critical facilities, providing temporary protection during high-risk operations.

With a high rate of fire of 1,100 rounds per minute and the capability to use ASELSAN’s 35mm ATOM airburst ammunition, GÖKDENİZ enhances engagement effectiveness while minimizing ammunition expenditure. This adaptability allows operators to select the appropriate ammunition type based on the threat profile, making it suitable for diverse operational contexts.

GÖKSUR VLS: Taking Missile Defence Beyond Conventional Installation

Complementing GÖKDENİZ, the GÖKSUR VLS offers a missile-based defence layer against airborne threats. Designed for naval self-defence, it employs a modular vertical-launch architecture that supports various installation configurations, including distributed or multiple launchers. With a stated effective range of up to 15 km, GÖKSUR VLS is equipped with AI-enabled fire-control systems that facilitate the engagement of multiple targets simultaneously.

This system’s guided missile features advanced capabilities, including a next-generation imaging infrared seeker and encrypted bidirectional datalink, enhancing its effectiveness in complex maritime environments. The deployable concept of GÖKSUR VLS allows for flexible integration, enabling naval forces to adapt to changing operational requirements without being constrained to permanent installations.

A Faster Response to Changing Maritime Risks

The introduction of deployable configurations for both GÖKDENİZ and GÖKSUR VLS signifies a broader shift in naval defence strategies. By adapting proven technologies to new operational models, ASELSAN is enhancing the flexibility and responsiveness of naval air defence systems. This adaptability is crucial for both military and commercial operators, allowing for tailored solutions to meet temporary security needs in exposed maritime areas.

ASELSAN’s innovative approach reflects a growing recognition that the ability to respond swiftly to immediate operational needs can be as important as the inherent capabilities of the systems themselves. By combining mature weapon technologies with modular, transportable configurations, ASELSAN aims to make advanced naval air defence more relevant to the realities of modern maritime security.
