National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students Plans for 2025-2026

The National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students held an important activity assessment meeting from December 26 to 28, 2023, in Asmara. This meeting focused on evaluating the organization’s programs and formulating a plan of action for 2026.

Assessing Current Programs

During the meeting, various reports highlighted successful initiatives that have been implemented in schools and local administrations. These programs aim to bolster political engagement and organizational capabilities among the youth, while also fostering interest in education. Participants emphasized the union’s commitment to enhancing social awareness and overall productivity among students.

A key discussion point was the range of programs the union prioritizes. These include civic training sessions, political seminars, organizational weeks, higher education festivals, and the special ‘Keiahti Embaba’ organization week. The union also places significant emphasis on recognizing and encouraging outstanding students.

The Role of Youth Centers

Another focal topic of the meeting was the role of youth centers in promoting awareness, creativity, and health among young people. Participants engaged in thorough discussions about how these centers can better serve youth-related issues and enhance the overall experience of young Eritreans.

Recommendations for Future Action

As a result of the discussions, several recommendations emerged. These included:

  • Strengthening youth and student-focused awareness programs.
  • Developing the ‘Keiahti Embaba’ organization further.
  • Implementing training programs aimed at enhancing youth capacities.
  • Fostering innovation and creativity through various initiatives.
  • Organizing seminars and promotional activities aligned with resilience and development goals.

These recommendations reflect a broader commitment to investing in the capabilities of young people in Eritrea, ensuring they are prepared to contribute to societal development.

Community Involvement and Support

Salah Ahmedin, Chairman of the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students, acknowledged that the positive outcomes from current programs are a result of collaborative effort. He pointed out the active involvement of parents, the community, government bodies, and the People’s Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ) institutions, as well as the dedication of youth and students themselves. Moving forward, programs designed to enhance youth and student participation will be scaled down to the area administration levels.

Future Strategic Planning

Yosuf Saiq, who oversees Organizational Affairs for the PFDJ, urged the union to finalize its five-year strategic plan. He emphasized the importance of focusing not only on plan development but also on effective implementation to ensure the success of future initiatives.

The thorough discussions and actionable recommendations from this meeting highlight the ongoing commitment of the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students to empower Eritrean youth in various spheres. As they move into 2025 and beyond, the union aims to cultivate a generation of informed and engaged citizens ready to contribute positively to their communities and country.
