Impact of Hyperconverged Infrastructure and Hybrid Cloud on Data Centre Sustainability

A new report commissioned by Nutanix has shed light on the impact of hyperconverged infrastructure and hybrid cloud on data centre sustainability and cost savings. The report, titled “Improving Sustainability in Data Centers 2024,” conducted by Atlantic Ventures, reveals that modernizing data centres with HCI-based solutions could save up to 19 million tCO2e in the EMEA region by 2030.

The findings highlight the potential for significant energy savings and reduced carbon emissions as businesses transition to more efficient data centre architectures. With the increasing demand for data-hungry technologies like AI and IoT, there is a growing urgency for action to address rising energy costs and regulatory pressures.

Sammy Zoghlami, SVP EMEA at Nutanix, emphasized the critical role of data centres in the global digital economy while acknowledging their high energy consumption. He stated that by leveraging HCI-based solutions, companies can make a substantial impact on climate action and operational costs.

Carlo Velten from Atlantic Ventures added that energy-efficient data centre and cloud operations are essential for profitability and sustainability in the face of budget constraints and soaring electricity prices. The report highlights key findings specific to the MENA region, including potential energy savings of up to 27% by transitioning to HCI-based platforms.

Overall, the report underscores the significant financial and environmental benefits of adopting HCI and hybrid cloud solutions in data centres, offering businesses a rare opportunity to align sustainability with profitability. With the potential for €25 billion in savings by 2030, the push towards more energy-efficient and climate-friendly operations is gaining momentum.
