Investments in AI Threat Detection and Risk Management by Cybersecurity Giants

In the world of cybersecurity, giants like Check Point Software and Cisco are not slowing down in their investments in artificial intelligence (AI) as summer comes to a close. This week, both companies announced acquisitions of startups specializing in AI threat detection and risk management.

Check Point Software has agreed to acquire Cyberint, an external risk management provider, while Cisco is buying Robust Intelligence, a company that offers technology to discover and assess risks in AI applications and models. Both acquisitions are set to close imminently, although the terms were not disclosed.

Robust Intelligence, founded by Harvard researchers Yaron Singer and Kojin Oshiba in 2019, offers a platform that provides algorithmic red teaming to detect vulnerabilities in models and applications. Cisco, an early investor and customer of Robust Intelligence, sees this acquisition as a way to accelerate its Security Cloud roadmap.

On the other hand, Check Point’s acquisition of Cyberint aims to expand its security operations center capabilities by adding attack surface management and digital risk protection to its portfolio. The move is part of Check Point’s plans to accelerate its expansion efforts under the leadership of incoming CEO Nadav Zafrir.

Analysts believe that these acquisitions will not only drive new revenue streams for the companies but also strengthen their overall platform portfolios to provide top-notch cybersecurity solutions. With the increasing focus on AI-enabled applications, having robust threat detection and risk management capabilities is crucial for businesses to secure their environments effectively.
