Surge in AI-Driven Cyber Risks Threatens Middle East Sectors
Cyber threats in the Middle East are escalating, with state-sponsored groups, ideologically motivated actors, and cybercriminals increasingly targeting critical sectors. According to CloudSEK’s Middle East Threat Exposure Report, the region is witnessing a significant rise in coordinated cyberattacks, particularly between April 2025 and August 2026. The report highlights that around 1,000 attacks were recorded in the latest quarter, with banking, financial services, telecommunications, and government sectors being the most affected.
AI Weaponisation and Evolving Threat Landscape
Gurdip Singh, VP Sales & Partnerships for EMEA & APAC at CloudSEK, emphasized the growing concern of AI weaponisation, which enables threat actors to conduct more targeted and coordinated attacks. The report identifies various threat groups, including APT33, APT34, MuddyWater, and OilRig, that are actively exploiting vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure and strategically important industries. Their tactics have evolved to include distributed denial-of-service campaigns, hacking, and targeted disruptions.
“Threat actors are also using AI to improve reconnaissance, automate elements of their operations, and conduct more coordinated attacks against sectors such as government, financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, real estate, and critical infrastructure.”
Addressing Third-Party Risks and Operational Resilience
As organizations increasingly rely on third-party vendors, managing third-party risk has become a board-level compliance priority. CloudSEK’s SVigil platform allows continuous monitoring of third- and fourth-party vendors for cyber vulnerabilities and digital risks. This proactive approach helps security teams identify weaknesses before they can be exploited, thereby strengthening operational resilience across the supply chain.
Insights from Real Estate and Aviation Sectors
CloudSEK’s experience in securing the real estate and aviation sectors reveals that these industries are high-value targets due to their large customer bases and the sensitive data they manage. Persistent attempts to harvest investor and customer data have been noted, particularly in the UAE’s real estate sector. Similarly, vulnerabilities in aviation systems can expose millions of passengers to risks, necessitating a proactive security approach based on continuous monitoring and early threat detection.
CloudSEK’s regional growth strategy focuses on local investment and a partner-led approach, establishing a dedicated team to support customers throughout their cybersecurity journey. This strategy includes collaboration with the Private Office of Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed Al Maktoum to facilitate connections with government and enterprise clients.
