Key Takeaways from Yassin Watlal on Evolving Cyber Threats and Defense Strategies

AI Innovations Take Center Stage at GISEC 2025: A New Era in Cyber Defense

Dubai— The GISEC Global 2025 conference has emerged as a pivotal platform for discussing the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. Yassin Watlal, Head of System Engineering and Solutions Architect META at CrowdStrike, shared critical insights into the evolving landscape of cyber threats and defenses.

During the event, Watlal highlighted the alarming rise of AI-driven cyber attacks, including sophisticated phishing schemes and insider threats like the notorious group, Famous Chollima. "Current threat actors are not only well-funded but also highly strategic," he noted, revealing a staggering 50% increase in dark web advertisements for compromised credentials. This surge has led to expedited attacks, with an average breakout time of just 48 minutes.

The discussions at GISEC underscored the dual role of AI in cybersecurity: as both a tool for attackers and a means of defense. Watlal explained how generative AI is being utilized to enhance the authenticity of phishing emails, resulting in a 54% click-through rate—far surpassing traditional methods.

CrowdStrike showcased its latest innovations, including the Falcon platform and Charlotte AI, which streamline threat detection and response. "AI-native platforms are essential for effective cybersecurity," Watlal emphasized, advocating for rapid responses to emerging threats.

As the conference wrapped up, Watlal urged businesses to adopt proactive security measures, particularly in securing AI applications. "It’s crucial to integrate security throughout the deployment process," he advised, warning against vulnerabilities like LLM jacking that could expose sensitive data.

With the stakes higher than ever, GISEC 2025 has set the stage for a transformative era in cybersecurity, where AI will play a central role in both offense and defense. As organizations navigate this complex landscape, the insights shared at the conference will be invaluable in shaping their strategies for resilience and security.
