Strengthening Connected Device Security in Manufacturing with a Unified Solution: CyberArk, Device Authority, and Microsoft Collaborate on NIST Compliance

CyberArk, Device Authority, and Microsoft Launch Innovative Device Security Solution for Manufacturing

In a significant leap towards bolstering cyber defense within the manufacturing sector, CyberArk and Device Authority, in collaboration with tech giant Microsoft, have unveiled a state-of-the-art security solution focused on connected device authentication. This initiative is designed to empower manufacturers with Zero Trust principles, substantially mitigating the cyber risks associated with numerous devices active on factory floors and edge environments.

The manufacturing landscape is undergoing a digital metamorphosis, propelled by the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Operational Technology (OT). With countless devices now essential for optimizing operations, the threat of cybersecurity vulnerabilities grows, necessitating robust protective measures. The newly introduced NIST reference architecture for IoT, released in May 2024, offers a fortified framework for secure onboarding and continuous monitoring of devices throughout their lifecycle. The collaborative effort among Microsoft, CyberArk, and Device Authority aims to translate this framework into practical, scalable solutions.

Key contributions from each partner enhance the solution’s effectiveness: Microsoft leverages Azure IoT for scalable device management and vigilant real-time monitoring, maintaining security even in disconnected environments. CyberArk’s privileged access management ensures only authorized personnel can access critical systems, minimizing manual errors. Meanwhile, Device Authority automates secure onboarding and identity credentialing, maintaining data integrity while reducing the potential for human error.

“Manufacturers face unique security challenges, especially in edge environments,” said Device Authority CEO Darron Antill. “Our unified solution addresses these vulnerabilities, ensuring both device and data security.”

As connected technologies weave deeper into manufacturing operations, comprehensive security measures become essential. “This collaboration aligns with NIST’s latest guidelines, providing manufacturers with an ecosystem-based approach to securing their operations,” asserted Dayan Rodriguez, Corporate Vice President at Microsoft.

With this innovative collaboration, manufacturers can now enhance their cyber resilience and ensure streamlined compliance with essential regulatory frameworks.
