Singapore Launches New Commands to Enhance Cyber Defense and Digital Resilience

Singapore Launches New Cyber Commands to Strengthen Digital Defense

On March 18, 2025, Singapore’s commitment to safeguarding its digital infrastructure reached a new milestone with the official launch of two pivotal military commands: the Defence Cyber Command (DCCOM) and the SAF C4 and Digitalisation Command (SAFC4DC). These new entities operate under the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS), Singapore’s fourth military service, and aim to address the escalating complexity and frequency of cyber threats.

During the inauguration ceremony at Hillview Camp, Defence Minister Dr. Ng Eng Hen emphasized the urgency of enhancing the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) cyber defense capabilities. He stated, "The SAF must rise to the challenge of protecting our digital backbone and critical IT infrastructures," citing an unprecedented uptick in sophisticated cyberattacks, including the use of artificial intelligence and ransomware targeting essential sectors like healthcare and energy.

DCCOM will focus on fortifying military networks, ensuring operational resilience in the face of rapidly evolving cyber threats. In parallel, SAFC4DC is tasked with spearheading the SAF’s digital transformation through cutting-edge technologies such as cloud computing and 5G. Dr. Ng underscored the necessity of integrating these advancements to boost operational efficiency and security.

Collaboration beyond military confines is a cornerstone of the new commands. Dr. Ng highlighted the critical role of partnerships with government agencies and the private sector, stating, "Partnering with the private sector will enable the SAF to stay ahead of cybersecurity threats."

In recognizing the invaluable contribution of Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen), Dr. Ng encouraged them to share their expertise in advisory and technical roles within DIS. The newly launched commands not only signify a strategic shift in Singapore’s defense posture but also affirm the national priority placed on cybersecurity—a clear message that Singapore is committed to not just react to cyber threats but to proactively secure its digital future.
