Traffic Diversions in Dubai: What You Need to Know

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced significant traffic diversions set to take place on several major roads in Dubai. As part of essential infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing rainwater and groundwater drainage systems, these diversions will affect the flow of traffic for the next two months.

Overview of the Diversions

Effective from June 28, 2025, the diversions will occur on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, and the Dubai–Al Ain Road. The RTA is urging drivers to plan their journeys ahead to minimize any inconveniences during this period.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Diversion

One of the major alterations will take place on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road at the Al Barari Underpass. This diversion is expected to last for two months, with the primary focus being on upgrading drainage systems and resurfacing the road.

Alternative Routes:

  • Drivers can redirect their travels using the Dubai–Al Ain Bridge, either by taking a U-turn towards Jebel Ali or via the Global Village Underpass, intersecting with Umm Suqeim Street towards Sharjah.

Emirates Road Diversion

Similarly, Emirates Road will see a two-month diversion at the Mudon Underpass, commencing on June 28. The purpose of this diversion will also be related to drainage system enhancements and road resurfacing efforts.

Suggested Alternate Routes:

  • Commuters can opt for Underpass 7, taking a U-turn towards Jebel Ali, or navigate from Hessa Street to Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Street heading towards the city.

Dubai–Al Ain Road Diversion

On the Dubai–Al Ain Road, there will be a temporary diversion at the Umm Al Daman Underpass, also starting on June 28 and persisting for a two-month period. Similar to the other roads, this initiative focuses on improving the drainage systems alongside necessary road improvements.
