Major Road Improvements Underway in Dubai
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is set to initiate significant traffic enhancements at 40 strategic locations across the emirate. Scheduled from June to September 2025, this initiative aims to boost road efficiency and safety throughout the city.
Widespread Impact Across Key Areas
The comprehensive program will focus on 22 streets, nine school zones, and more than five developmental areas. Notable regions benefiting from these upgrades include the Tolerance District, Al Khawaneej 2, and Nad Al Sheba. By targeting these areas, the RTA aims to address both urban mobility needs and community safety concerns.
Strategic Timing to Minimize Disruption
RTA has carefully planned the timing of these works to coincide with the summer holidays, a period typically characterized by reduced traffic congestion. This strategic approach is designed to limit disruption to everyday commuters while ensuring high safety standards are maintained at all construction sites.
Commitment to Urban Development
In a statement, the Dubai Media Office (DMO) emphasized RTA’s ongoing commitment to upgrading Dubai’s road infrastructure. The enhancements are part of a larger strategy focused on keeping pace with the city’s rapid urban expansion and economic development. The overarching goal is to improve traffic flow, shorten journey times, and enhance connectivity between residential neighborhoods, educational institutions, and development zones.
Key Traffic Improvements
The next phase of the project will bring enhancements to several major roads, including Jumeirah Village Circle towards Hessa Street, Ras Al Khor Road, Al Thanya Street, and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street. Additional work is slated for Al Meydan Street, Al Sa’ada Street, and Al Asayel Street, particularly at the junction of Al Wasl Street with Al Manara Street.
Focus on School Zones
As part of its initiative to improve road safety, RTA will conduct upgrades in nine designated school zones. These enhancements aim to bolster traffic efficiency around educational institutions, particularly during peak morning and afternoon hours. Notable projects include developments at the Al Warqa 1 school complex and the introduction of a dedicated bus entrance at GEMS School in Al Warqa 3.
Access points around The English College in Al Safa 1 will also be widened to alleviate congestion, supplemented by a newly installed signal-controlled pedestrian crossing on Al Seedaf Street in Al Barsha 1.
Addressing Development Areas
Additionally, RTA is set to implement traffic solutions at five development zones, responding to the area’s growing population and economic activity. One notable improvement includes the construction of a direct access route to Al Muhaisnah labor camps from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Upgrades will also be made to Al Mustaqbal Street to enhance access to surrounding residential communities.
The project will also improve connectivity between Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street via Al Marabea’ Street, alongside significant enhancements at the Nad Al Hamar junction near Lootah Mosque.
Enhancing Parking and Safety Features
New parking facilities will be developed to serve the Zayed Educational Complex in Oud Al Muteena 1, addressing the growing demand for convenient parking options in the area. Furthermore, internal roadworks will be completed in Tolerance District, Al Khawaneej 2, Jebel Ali Industrial 1, Nad Al Sheba, and Al Warqa.
To promote pedestrian safety, new pedestrian walkways will be constructed in the Al Quoz Creative Zone, ensuring safe passage for foot traffic in this bustling area.
This extensive program by RTA underscores Dubai’s commitment to evolving its transport infrastructure in line with the city’s dynamic growth, making everyday travel more feasible and safer for all residents.
