Enforcement Directorate Official Arrested in Extortion Case

In a dramatic turn of events, the Pentagon Police have apprehended Enforcement Directorate (ED) Assistant Director Vishal Deep in Delhi, following alarming allegations of extortion. This arrest follows closely on the heels of Deep securing interim relief from arrest in a separate corruption case brought forth by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Mumbai, raising eyebrows and prompting questions about his conduct.

The allegations stem from a complaint by Vikas Bansal, a Panchkula businessman and the chairman of the Himalayan Group of Professional Institutions. Bansal accused Deep of colluding with Rohit Gujjar, a claimed associate of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, to threaten his family unless they paid a hefty Rs 50 lakh. According to Bansal, the intimidation began on January 3, when his nephew received a WhatsApp call from a person impersonating Gujjar, who insisted they withdraw the corruption case against Deep or face severe repercussions.

Bansal’s legal battle intensified with the delivery of menacing messages and detailed knowledge about his family’s whereabouts, prompting him to document the threats with screenshots and audio recordings. His evidence culminated in the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at Police Station 14, Panchkula, leading to the booking of both Deep and Gujjar under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Adding to Deep’s troubles, the CBI has summoned him for questioning in the ongoing corruption investigation, slated for January 11. As the legal fallout deepens, serious concerns are being raised about Deep’s alleged misuse of authority and potential ties to criminal factions, highlighting a troubling intersection of law enforcement and organized crime.
