Emirates SkyCargo has successfully transported Altair-1, the UAE’s first commercial AI-enabled earth observation satellite, from Dubai to Los Angeles. This significant milestone, part of Orbitworks’ Altair constellation, underscores the UAE’s ambition to establish itself as a leader in space and advanced technologies. The satellite was flown on an Emirates SkyCargo Boeing 777 freighter aircraft, ahead of its scheduled launch in October 2026.
Details of the Altair-1 Satellite
Developed and manufactured in the UAE by Orbitworks, the Altair satellite constellation features a multi-sensor design equipped with optical, infrared, thermal, and RF sensing capabilities, along with onboard AI processing. Altair-1 is set to provide analysis-ready intelligence for various applications, including environmental monitoring, disaster response, land and coastal-use analysis, maritime domain awareness, and resource and infrastructure assessment. It is the first of ten satellites that will comprise the Altair constellation.

Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, expressed pride in supporting Orbitworks during this pivotal moment, emphasizing the importance of precision and expertise in transporting such technologically advanced cargo. He stated, “Transporting highly sensitive and technologically advanced cargo requires precision and expertise, and we are well positioned through decades of deep expertise to support this critical mission.”
The successful transport of Altair-1 highlights Emirates SkyCargo’s capabilities in managing highly sensitive and specialized cargo under its Aerospace and Engineering vertical. A dedicated team ensured rigorous environmental and safety controls throughout the transport process, delivering the satellite on schedule.

Schahan Sediqi, General Manager of Orbitworks, remarked on the historic significance of this achievement for both the company and the UAE’s space ambitions. He noted, “We could not have reached this point without in-country partners like Emirates SkyCargo, whose care and expertise got Altair safely from Dubai to Los Angeles.” The anticipation now builds for the satellite’s launch into orbit, where it will begin its mission.
Emirates SkyCargo has a proven track record in transporting satellites and sensitive aerospace equipment globally. The carrier has previously transported significant payloads, including Arab Satellite 813 and Khalifasat, the first satellite developed by UAE engineers. With over 6,000 tonnes of aerospace and advanced engineering cargo moved in 2026 alone, Emirates SkyCargo continues to expand its fleet and network, enhancing its capabilities in specialized logistics.
