FCRF Launches Certified CISO Program to Strengthen Cybersecurity Leadership in India

In the evolving landscape of Indian corporate governance, the role of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is undergoing a significant transformation. Historically viewed as a technical guardian, the CISO is now being recognized as a pivotal figure in strategic decision-making. This shift is underscored by tightening breach reporting obligations and increasing regulatory expectations surrounding cyber resilience. As organizations grapple with the complexities introduced by artificial intelligence, the necessity for robust cyber leadership has never been more pronounced.

In response to these challenges, FCRF Academy has announced the launch of its Certified Chief Information Security Officer (C-CISO) program, set to commence on April 11, 2026. This four-week course is structured as a 16-hour certification program, comprising 16 modules that address the multifaceted responsibilities of today’s CISO in India.

A Curriculum Built for India’s Regulatory Reality

What sets the C-CISO program apart is its emphasis on regulatory and legal frameworks. The course redefines the CISO’s role from merely an IT custodian to a strategic advisor. It delves into governance structures, reporting lines, and accountability within the context of Indian corporate frameworks. Participants will explore the legal landscape that shapes cybersecurity leadership, including the Information Technology Act of 2000, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, and the operational implications of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP) of 2023, along with the newly notified DPDP Rules of 2025.

The syllabus also addresses sector-specific compliance requirements. Dedicated modules cover SEBI’s Cybersecurity and Cyber Resilience Framework, RBI’s zero-trust and identity-first mandates, and IRDAI’s cybersecurity expectations for insurers. Additional sessions focus on critical areas such as protecting information infrastructure, quantifying cyber risk through models like FAIR, establishing zero-trust environments, operating a 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC), and aligning incident response programs with CERT-In’s reporting requirements.

As the course progresses, it tackles pressing issues for senior security leaders, including AI-driven attacks, deepfake fraud, prompt injection risks, AI governance, cyber insurance, and the challenge of communicating cyber posture to boards in a manner that secures necessary budgets and executive attention.

From Training Programs to Leadership Pipelines

The launch of the C-CISO program reflects a broader trend within FCRF Academy, which has been expanding its professional education offerings in cyber governance and risk. Over recent years, the academy has developed various certifications, training tens of thousands in areas such as cyber crisis management, data protection, cyber law, governance, risk and compliance, and fraud investigation. The C-CISO program is positioned as a leadership extension of this educational ecosystem, targeting not only entry-level learners but also current and aspiring CISOs, CTOs, IT directors, risk officers, and senior security leadership.

This audience definition is crucial. The role of a CISO in India has become increasingly hybrid, encompassing board presentations, incident response, privacy compliance reviews, and regulatory planning. Security leadership now demands fluency in law, governance, operations, finance, and public accountability.

Training institutions are responding to this convergence by developing programs that reflect the complexities of modern cybersecurity leadership. FCRF Academy’s offering is explicitly practitioner-led and weekend-based, catering to the needs of working professionals who must navigate strategic complexities while maintaining operational responsibilities.

Why the Timing Matters

The C-CISO program’s launch date—April 11, 2026—coincides with a period of heightened scrutiny on cybersecurity leadership in India. Regulators are increasingly focused on not just the existence of controls but also on the dynamics of reporting structures, the timeliness of incident disclosures, and the board’s understanding of cyber exposure and resilience metrics. The proliferation of AI systems has introduced new attack vectors and governance challenges, complicating the cybersecurity landscape without alleviating existing risks.

As the cyber insurance market matures, organizations must demonstrate credible security maturity to secure financial mitigations. Consequently, the CISO role has gained significance beyond its traditional boundaries, now positioned at the intersection of technology, law, operations, and institutional trust.

FCRF Academy’s new certification is built on this understanding. The curriculum reflects the reality that organizations must not only appoint a CISO but also ensure that this leader is equipped to handle the expansive responsibilities that the role entails.

The launch of the C-CISO program signifies more than the introduction of a new course; it marks a pivotal transition in the professionalization of cybersecurity leadership in India. As the landscape becomes increasingly intertwined with organizational governance, the role of the CISO is set to become indispensable.
