GCC Central Banks Enhance Cybersecurity and Fintech Collaboration at Recent Meeting

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) central banks are intensifying their collaboration on cybersecurity and financial technology, as highlighted during a recent virtual meeting of a preparatory committee for the central bank governors. This sixth meeting, chaired by Hesa Abdulla Al Sada, Executive Director of Central Banking and Macro-Prudential Oversight at the Central Bank of Bahrain, focused on enhancing regional cooperation in payment systems, banking supervision, and cybersecurity initiatives.

Representatives from all GCC member states participated in the meeting, which was held under Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th session of the GCC. Khalid bin Ali Al Sunaidi, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Development Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat, also attended. In her opening remarks, Al Sada emphasized the critical role of the Preparatory Committee in fostering joint cooperation among the central banks, aligning with the directives and recommendations set forth by the GCC Central Bank Governors.

A significant portion of the discussions centered on mechanisms for sharing cybersecurity information pertinent to the banking sector.
