Genetec Unveils Audio Communication Capabilities for Security Center SaaS

Genetec has officially rolled out cloud-native audio communication features for its Security Center Software as a Service (SaaS). This enhancement takes the firm’s decade-long expertise in intercom and SIP-based audio solutions and integrates it into a seamless cloud-based interface.

The new audio functionality allows users to engage in real-time voice communications directly within the Security Center SaaS platform, which already includes capabilities for video surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection. This integration means that operators can interact with individuals at various entry points while also verifying their identities through live video feeds. Such streamlined communication eliminates the need to toggle between multiple tools, enhancing operational efficiency.

Freedom in Device Choices

Christian Morin, Vice President of Product Engineering at Genetec Inc., emphasizes the goal of granting customers the same flexibility with audio that they have come to expect from video and access control. Businesses can select the intercom devices that fit their specific needs and manage them all through a single, cloud-based platform. This approach allows organizations to avoid being locked into a single vendor’s proprietary system.

Scalable Deployment Options

The audio communication feature is designed to accommodate a wide range of deployments, from a handful of intercoms to extensive setups with thousands of devices. The cloud-native design and open architecture enable businesses to initiate smaller, pilot phases with limited investment before scaling up to meet broader requirements.

At the time of its release, the audio capabilities will support intercom systems from Axis, with plans for future compatibility with additional manufacturers. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for organizations looking to customize their systems according to specific operational demands.

Security and Privacy Considerations

Robust security and privacy measures are pivotal aspects of the Security Center SaaS, especially concerning audio data. Like video and access control data, audio communications are treated as confidential, featuring encryption protocols that safeguard data during transit. This level of protection is essential in today’s digital landscape, where data breaches are increasingly common.

Moreover, audit trails are included to ensure accountability during investigations, allowing organizations to trace communications and actions taken. Regular software updates, including necessary security patches, help maintain the system’s integrity against evolving cybersecurity threats.
