Empowering the Next Generation of Cyber Leaders: A Look at the SANS Riyadh Cyber Leaders Forum

The realm of cybersecurity is rapidly evolving, and as threats become increasingly sophisticated, so too must the leaders tasked with defending against them. This year, from August 24 to 28, 2025, the SANS Institute will convene the SANS Riyadh Cyber Leaders Forum at the Hyatt Regency Riyadh Olaya. This event is set to be a pivotal gathering for security managers and SOC leaders, offering an intensive, five-day training program aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills to navigate the complex landscape of cybersecurity threats.

Saudi Arabia: A Global Cybersecurity Leader

Saudi Arabia has emerged as a powerhouse in the field of cybersecurity, recently earning the top position in the 2025 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook’s cybersecurity indicator. This accolade is not a stroke of luck; it’s a testament to the ongoing efforts of the National Cybersecurity Authority and the Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE). Their collaborative ventures have significantly bolstered the Kingdom’s cyber resilience, advocated for technology localization, and fostered essential international partnerships.

“Saudi Arabia’s position as a global cybersecurity leader is no coincidence; it’s the result of strategic vision and long-term commitment,” remarked Ned Baltagi, Managing Director for the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey at the SANS Institute. His insights underline the significance of concerted efforts in establishing a robust cybersecurity framework that is essential not only for national security but also for the health of the economy.

Training for Tomorrow’s Cybersecurity Leaders

At the heart of the SANS Riyadh event is a focus on specialized training designed for security leaders. The curriculum includes a range of courses tailored to develop the strategic prowess needed to manage today’s cybersecurity challenges effectively. Highlights of the program include:

LDR512: Security Leadership Essentials for Managers

This foundational course is crafted for security professionals who aspire to elevate their leadership and strategic planning capabilities. It seeks to instill critical skills necessary for effective management and decision-making in security contexts.

LDR514: Security Strategic Planning, Policy, and Leadership™

Participants in this course will acquire tools to construct comprehensive cybersecurity strategies and IT security policies. The emphasis here is on actionable insights, preparing leaders to guide teams through successful deployments and policy adherence.

LDR551: Building and Leading Security Operations Centers™

Understanding the intricate dynamics of building and managing Security Operations Centers (SOCs) is the focus of this course. It provides a framework that aligns operations with organizational risk profiles and overarching goals.

Each course is enriched with 17 hands-on labs and interactive Cyber42 simulations, ensuring that attendees not only learn theoretically but also gain practical experience. Participants can engage with the content either on-site in Riyadh or through a virtual online platform, making it accessible for a broader audience.

Engaging the Community: Cyber Leaders Community Night Talk

In addition to the formal training sessions, a complimentary Cyber Leaders Community Night Talk will take place on August 25, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, led by instructor Jan D’Herdt. This session will delve into the risk of unauthorized cryptocurrency mining within corporate environments, providing businesses with strategies to detect and mitigate these evolving threats. Such community engagement embodies the ethos of sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative approach to cybersecurity.

This session, which can be attended both in-person and virtually, exemplifies SANS Institute’s commitment to equipping InfoSec professionals with actionable insights into emerging threats, ensuring that they remain vigilant and prepared.

Conclusion: Building a Network of Cybersecurity Excellence

As the SANS Riyadh Cyber Leaders Forum prepares to unfold, it stands as a critical opportunity for cybersecurity professionals in Saudi Arabia and beyond. Through focused training, community engagement, and a commitment to excellence, this event encapsulates a collective vision for a secure digital future. By investing in the next generation of cybersecurity leaders, the Kingdom is not just responding to the challenges of today; it is paving the way for a resilient tomorrow.
