Meta and NatWest Partner to Combat Scams: Fraud Intelligence Reciprocal Exchange (FIRE) Initiative Expansion

In a groundbreaking move to combat fraud, Meta and NatWest are expanding their partnership to launch the Fraud Intelligence Reciprocal Exchange (FIRE) programme. This program allows financial institutions to share crucial intelligence with Meta to enhance fraud detection and protect users from scammers.

Nathaniel Gleicher, Global Head of Counter-Fraud at Meta, highlighted the significance of collaboration between banks and platforms in the fight against scams. The success of this initiative was evident in the takedown of a major concert ticket scam network targeting individuals in the UK and US.

The partnership has been well-received by industry stakeholders, including the City of London Police and the National Economic Crime Centre. NatWest is among the first banks in the UK to participate in this pilot, with more institutions expected to join soon.

During the initial pilot phase, approximately 20,000 scammer accounts were removed by Meta with the help of data shared by NatWest and other partners. This collaboration has significantly strengthened Meta’s fraud detection capabilities and paved the way for a more secure digital environment.

The positive feedback from the pilot phase has spurred Meta to onboard more banks in the coming months as part of their ongoing efforts to combat scams effectively. The FIRE program is a shining example of how cooperation between financial institutions and tech companies can lead to tangible results in the fight against fraud.
