Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, and Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University. Dr. Al-Mashat is attending TICAD 9 as part of a high-level delegation led by Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The dialogue between Minister Al-Mashat and Professor Marwala focused on the potential for cooperation, particularly in the context of sustainable development. The United Nations University, founded in 1975, plays a critical role in connecting academic institutions worldwide and fostering scientific research. Commitment to Digital Transformation and Human Capital
Professor Marwala reaffirmed the University’s dedication to supporting Egypt’s initiatives, particularly in the realms of digital transformation, AI, and human capital development. This collaboration is essential for Egypt to effectively address various socio-economic challenges and ensure its sustainable development trajectory.
Japan: A Key Development Partner
Japan stands out as one of Egypt’s most influential development allies, evidenced by an extensive cooperation portfolio. Currently, around 18 development projects align with Egypt’s government objectives to bolster sustainable economic development. This partnership reflects Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the action plan set for 2024-2027, resonating well with Japan’s funding priorities.
In terms of financial contributions, Japan has offered approximately $2.4 billion in technical support and grants and more than $7.2 billion in development funds. These resources are directed toward crucial sectors such as renewable energy, electricity, transportation, civil aviation, health care, education, and irrigation, among others.

The ongoing collaboration between Egypt and Japan is critical in achieving broad-based economic growth and sustainable development.
