Industry Leaders Set to Speak at MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025

Fatou Diop, the Legal, Contracts, and Local Content Manager, alongside Malcolm Watson, Managing Director of MODEC Senegal, are confirmed as speakers at the upcoming MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference and exhibition. This significant event is scheduled to take place from December 8-10 in Dakar, Senegal.

Understanding Senegal’s First Offshore Oil Development

This year’s conference promises to unveil crucial insights surrounding Senegal’s inaugural offshore oil development. The discussions will focus on the operational, technical, and local content strategies that support this groundbreaking project. Participants at the conference can expect deep dives into the methods and frameworks that will guide the development of Senegal’s oil production landscape.

For those interested in being part of this enlightening event, further details can be found at www.MSGBCOilGasAndPower.com. Opportunities to sponsor or register as a delegate are available by reaching out to the event organizers at sales@energycapitalpower.com.

MODEC’s Role in the Sangomar Field Development

MODEC Senegal plays a pivotal role in the Sangomar field development, which marked its first oil extraction in June 2024. This project is driven by Woodside Energy, alongside Senegal’s national oil company, Petrosen. The Sangomar field is situated roughly 100 kilometers south of Dakar and is located at a water depth of around 780 meters, marking a significant milestone as Senegal enters the commercial oil production arena.

Production Capacity and Technological Edge

The first phase of the Sangomar development targets an estimated 230 million barrels of crude oil. Modec’s involvement encompasses the entire lifecycle of the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, known as the FPSO Léopold Sédar Senghor. From engineering and construction to long-term operations and maintenance, MODEC is ensuring the unit’s efficiency.

The FPSO, which has been converted from a very large crude carrier, boasts an impressive production capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil per day, along with gas production of approximately 130 million standard cubic feet daily. It is equipped to inject 145,000 barrels of water per day and can store up to 1.3 million barrels of crude oil. Additionally, it is built to facilitate future expansions that may include gas exports and connections from nearby oilfields.

Contribution to Local Content Initiatives

A significant aspect of MODEC Senegal’s operations is its commitment to local involvement. During the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025, both Diop and Watson will discuss local content initiatives undertaken by MODEC. These include various training programs, skill development opportunities, and job creation for Senegalese professionals. Collaborations with companies like Axess Group are strengthening local engineering capabilities that will not only aid the Sangomar project but also future offshore ventures in Senegal.

Expert Insights at MSGBC Conference

Events such as MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 create a platform for industry leaders to showcase expertise and innovations shaping the oil sector in the region. Sandra Jeque, Events and Project Director at Energy Capital & Power, noted, “MODEC Senegal’s participation at the conference highlights the expanding offshore oil sector in the MSGBC region, offering attendees valuable insights into Senegal’s first offshore development, including its technical and operational strategies.”
