New Wage Protection Services for Domestic Workers in the UAE

A Pioneering Partnership

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has recently taken a significant step forward by signing a memorandum of understanding with e& money, the fintech subsidiary of e&. This collaboration aims to enhance wage protection for domestic workers in the UAE by integrating the Wage Protection System (WPS) with the e& money platform.

Streamlining Salary Payments

This new partnership will allow employers to efficiently manage salary payments for domestic workers, ensuring compliance with the UAE’s labor laws. The integration of MoHRE’s Wage Protection System into the e& money app simplifies the payroll process, making it easier for employers to adhere to regulatory requirements.

Commitment to Worker Rights

Dalal Alshehhi, the Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Protection at MoHRE, commented on this initiative, stating, “This partnership is a testament to MoHRE’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights. By expanding our wage protection services through e& money, we are ensuring that domestic workers receive timely salary payments while adhering to existing regulations.” This initiative seeks to provide broader access to regulated financial services, supporting the rights and well-being of domestic workers in the UAE.

Innovation in Financial Accessibility

Melike Kara, CEO of e& money, emphasized the importance of this partnership in creating financial solutions that positively impact people’s lives. “By integrating MoHRE’s WPS into our platform, we are not just facilitating efficient salary management; we are also promoting inclusivity in financial services. This collaboration aims to empower workers, support businesses, and build trust across the financial system," Kara explained.

First Extension of Wage Protection

This initiative marks a significant milestone as it represents the first time the Wage Protection System has been extended to cover domestic workers. Employers can easily register on the e& money app through MoHRE’s dedicated section, where details about the workers and their salaries are automatically populated for streamlined payment processing.

Enhanced Benefits for Domestic Workers

As part of this improved system, domestic workers will be issued an International Bank Account Number (IBAN), a digital wallet, and a prepaid Mastercard. Notably, e& money is offering a free prepaid card for up to two employees, alongside providing competitive exchange rates for international money transfers, making it easier for workers to manage their finances.

Conclusion

Through this innovative partnership, MoHRE and e& money are set to enhance the experience of domestic workers in the UAE. By ensuring salary payments are not only prompt but also secure and regulated, they are facilitating a positive change in the financial landscape for many individuals.
