RiverSafe Study Reveals 20% of Organisations Have Had Data Exposed by Employees Using AI Tools

According to a recent report by RiverSafe, a leading cybersecurity professional services provider, one-fifth of organisations have experienced a data breach due to an employee using AI tools like ChatGPT. The survey, conducted among 250 UK CISOs, revealed that 75% of security leaders believe insider threats pose a greater risk than external threats.

The intersection of AI tools and cybersecurity has raised concerns among security professionals, with 20% of respondents identifying AI as the biggest cybersecurity threat. This highlights the risks associated with insider threats and the potential misuse of AI in cyberattacks.

RiverSafe CEO, Suid Adeyanju, emphasized the growing danger posed by insider threats within organisations and the need for proactive cybersecurity measures. The increasing use of AI adds complexity and vulnerability to the evolving landscape of cyber threats, making it crucial for businesses to revise their cyber strategies.

CTO Oseloka Obiora echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of leveraging AI for competitive advantage while strengthening cybersecurity defenses. The consequences of a data breach, compromising both customer and employee data, can be devastating, underscoring the critical need for comprehensive security measures.

As organisations continue to navigate the challenges of cybersecurity and AI integration, it is essential to prioritize data protection and threat mitigation strategies. With the evolving threat landscape, businesses must remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding sensitive information from potential breaches.
