PTT Oil and Retail Business Reports Impressive Q1 Earnings
Strong Financial Performance
BANGKOK, THAILAND – PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (commonly referred to as OR), the retail and lifestyle division of PTT Group, has announced remarkable financial results for the first quarter of 2025. The company reported revenue of THB 182.4 billion, with net profits soaring to THB 4.38 billion. This marks a significant 46% increase from the previous quarter and a year-on-year rise of 17.6%. The company’s EBITDA also experienced growth, reaching THB 6.48 billion, which is up 32.7% compared to the previous quarter and 5% year-on-year. The positive shift in earnings can largely be attributed to growth in both its Global and Lifestyle segments, along with strategic cost management.
Factors Contributing to Growth
OR’s recent results highlight several key factors driving its upward trajectory. The company benefited from an increase in gross profit per liter and enhanced operational efficiency, particularly notable in countries like Laos, the Philippines, and Cambodia. The improved EBITDA of THB 311 million over the same quarter last year can be credited to this operational excellence, along with the resilience of consumers and tighter cost controls, which have buoyed margins especially in the Lifestyle sector. Despite challenges in the Mobility segment, notably softer margins in aviation fuel, OR’s overall performance remained stable, aided by reductions in personnel and outsourcing expenses.
Investment Highlights
An additional boost to OR’s bottom line came from equity investments, which added THB 657 million. This underscores the company’s diversified growth approach, further solidifying its financial foundation. M.L. Peekthong Thongyai, CEO of OR, emphasized that the recent financial performance illustrates the company’s robust business model and its straightforward, long-term growth strategy: “We are expanding with purpose—delivering value for people, prosperity for communities, and care for the planet.”
Community and Environmental Commitment
Central to OR’s strategy is the People-Performance-Planet framework, which guides its investments and innovations aimed at sustainable regional growth. OR’s commitment to clean mobility is exemplified by the expansion of the EV Station PluZ network, which is now present in all 77 provinces in Thailand. The company’s Café Amazon brand continues to make strides across Southeast Asia, with 391 outlets outside of Thailand and over 112 million cups sold in just the first quarter of 2025.
Global Business Growth
The Global Business segment has been particularly noteworthy, reporting a 30.8% year-on-year increase in sales volume, with EBITDA surging by 81.5%. OR has expanded its footprint, now operating a total of 415 PTT Stations and 391 Café Amazon locations not just in Thailand but also in markets like Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and even reaching into Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.
Peekthong highlighted a crucial aspect of the company’s mission: “This isn’t just about selling fuel or coffee. It’s about building platforms that empower local economies, foster entrepreneurship, and deliver long-term, sustainable growth.”
Expanding Business Ventures
In addition to the energy sector, OR is strategically advancing its lifestyle and digital operations. Non-oil operations accounted for 27.5% of Q1 EBITDA, driven by impressive performances in retail, food and beverage, and franchising. The company is also focusing on circular economy models and sustainable products as part of its commitment to creating long-term value.
Furthermore, OR is preparing to make its entry into the virtual banking sector, capitalizing on its extensive commercial network and customer database to facilitate personalized financial services. This move aligns with OR’s overarching strategy of becoming a daily-life platform for consumers.
Financial Stability
OR’s financial health remains robust, with TRIS Rating reaffirming the company’s corporate credit rating at AA+ for the third consecutive year, reflecting both fiscal discipline and strategic clarity.
Future Aspirations
With this strong momentum, OR aims to delve deeper into ASEAN markets and explore emerging frontiers, utilizing a combination of organic growth, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships. The company is dedicated to transitioning from a national leader into a regionally ready enterprise at the intersection of energy, retail, and sustainability.
In a rapidly evolving landscape, OR’s strategic vision embodies resilience and adaptability, positioning the company for continued success in its multifaceted business endeavors.
