The 17th Real Estate Development (RED) Summit Saudi Arabia | Europe Edition, organized by GBB Venture, recently commenced in Lisbon, Portugal. This event, under the theme "Connecting Beyond Boundaries," unfolded over two days, bringing together prominent figures from Saudi Arabia’s real estate sector to discuss current trends and future perspectives.

Day 1: Innovation and Technology in Focus

The summit kicked off at the Lisbon Congress Centre’s RIO Pavilion, featuring key decision-makers from the Kingdom who engaged in enlightening conversations with Europe’s leading experts in design, construction, and hospitality. The discussions resonate with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aiming to foster growth and innovation in various sectors.

Opening Remarks and Highlights

The welcome address by Ravi Kumar Chandran, Founder and Managing Director of GBB Venture, marked a significant milestone, celebrating 25 successful events. Following this, Rui Lourenço Pereira from the Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency emphasized the importance of cross-continental collaborations, setting an optimistic tone for the discussions ahead.

Sessions on Groundbreaking Innovations

Emphasizing the summit’s dynamic nature, a series of fast-paced sessions captivated the audience. Ron Bakker from PLP Architecture shared his insights on “The Edge,” an innovative office building that redefines workspace environments through sustainable design principles. Meanwhile, Pablo Vidarte, CEO of BIOO, introduced cutting-edge technologies such as soil-powered batteries and bioluminescent plants, merging natural elements with modern innovation.

Tetyana Kovalenko of Elite Stone Group spoke about the concept of green luxury through sustainably sourced marble. Dr. Andreas Wieser from Smart United GmbH stressed the significance of indoor air quality in real estate development. Shifting perspectives towards the Middle East, Ali Al Ghamdi from OSUS examined the transformative progression of Saudi Arabia’s hospitality sector, while Elias Abou Samra, CEO of Rafal Real Estate, discussed evolving urban development models.

Interactive and Energizing Sessions

The first day culminated in a presentation by Christos Passas from Zaha Hadid Architects, focusing on sustainable high-rise design innovations. This was followed by pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings that allowed attendees to forge valuable commercial connections.

After a brief energizer session led by Amâncio Santos from Technogym, participants engaged in panel discussions focusing on adaptability in construction. Moderated by Daniel O’Brien from Qiddiya, this session gathered experts to discuss the need for flexibility and responsiveness in future developments.

As the day concluded with focused B2B meetings, attendees enjoyed a scenic sunset drive to Arriba for a cocktail dinner, blending networking with an immersive coastal experience.

The second day delved deeper into the changing landscape of Saudi Arabia’s real estate market. Harmen De Jong from Knight Frank presented essential market trends and demand-supply insights shaping the future of the Kingdom’s real estate sector.

Presenting Iconic Designs

In the "Designing the Iconic" session, prominent architects including Maximilian Zielinski from Foster + Partners, Viggo Haremst from Henning Larsen, and Mark Kennedy from MAGNA – NEOM showcased visionary structures that will endure through generations. Their discussions highlighted the importance of blending aesthetics with functionality in urban spaces.

Exploring Market Dynamics

An intense panel discussion titled "Market Dynamics & Mega Events Reshaping the Industry" featured insights from Dr. Bassam Boodai (AL MOZAINI Real Estate) and Eng. Abdulaziz Al Zamil (Tatweer). This conversation illuminated the economic and cultural shifts influencing the evolution of real estate in Saudi Arabia.

Final Networking Opportunities

Post-lunch, attendees participated in the final event of the summit, a speed networking session dubbed the "GBB’s Delegates-Only Bash." Over 100 real estate professionals engaged in swift interactions, fostering connections that wrapped up the summit on a high note.

The Europe edition of the 17th Real Estate Development Summit not only facilitated valuable discussions but also laid the groundwork for future collaborations.
