  • This increase is tied to rising geopolitical tensions
  • Saudi Arabia emerged as the most targeted country

Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) has officially partnered with Amentum to enhance its maintenance, repair, overhaul, and upgrade (MROU) capabilities for land combat systems in Saudi Arabia. This collaboration aims to bolster SAMI Land’s operational effectiveness in supporting the country’s armed forces with their ground systems.

According to Andy White, Amentum’s Senior Vice President for Energy & Environment International, the company will leverage its extensive global experience to support SAMI Land in maintaining the military systems used by Saudi forces. “Working alongside SAMI Land’s teams, Amentum will bring proven expertise in MRO, allowing us to establish the necessary technical, commercial, and business processes,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of this partnership.

Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Alhodaib, Executive Vice President of SAMI Land, also highlighted the significance of this agreement in enhancing the Kingdom’s defense capabilities. “This collaboration is a strategic initiative towards improving our MROU capabilities, ensuring operational excellence in meeting customer requirements,” he remarked. The partnership not only focuses on immediate goals but also aims for long-term localization of technologies, thereby supporting Saudi Arabia’s vision to establish itself as the foremost national provider of MROU solutions for land systems.

As part of its Vision 2030 initiative, Saudi Arabia has set an ambitious goal of localizing over 50% of its military expenditures by 2030. This agreement with Amentum is a crucial step in establishing SAMI Land as a leader in land systems MROU within the region. By implementing comprehensive business strategies and industry best practices, SAMI Land aims to meet the increasing demands of its clients effectively.

The collaboration is also anticipated to create job opportunities within the defense sector, thereby strengthening the industrial framework of Saudi Arabia. SAMI’s strategic objectives align with efforts to localize defense industries, and Amentum’s role will involve transferring critical knowledge and building national expertise in manufacturing, maintenance, and repair processes.
